Replacing cylinder heads BB Chev ???

It has been years since I have done this so I have a couple ???. I have the trusty chilton manual on hand so I know the Tq specs and the order to Torque the heads down, however... is it recommended to tq the bolts down working your way up to the final ft Lbs? Or should you just go to full Tq starting on the first bolt and do them all like that?

Also when the time comes to replace the intake manifold is there any good tips for getting the 4 pce gasket set to seal well? I have some High temp silicone for the 4 corners and around the water jacket holes. Any advice would be great as I dont want to do this over should I miss something simple.

Thanks

Curt

Re: Replacing cylinder heads BB Chev ???

Torque the bolts in steps to full torque. 50% -75%-100%. Also use thread sealer on the bolts or you could have a coolant leak. Use paste type sealer not teflon tape.
For sealing the intake, all you should need is RTV for the corners where the valley seal meets the intake gaskets.
Good Luck.

Toss those end seals and use a fat bead of RTV instead.
