decodeing a vin
this is the vin off my truck GS259P744959 can't decode it. chris

Are you sure that it isn't CS259P744959? Everything except the C translates to:
If that first character is really a C, then it means that it's two wheel drive. I don't know what a G would translate to. s = Six cylinder 2=3/4 ton 5 = Panel 9 = 1969 P = Pontiac, MI 7= all 1969s had a 7 here 44959 means 44,959th truck/panel/suburban off the line in '69

Check the number that is stamped on the frame to see if it matches the vin plate.
Any chalk numbers on the front of the cab under the hood? I thought that most 72's had a double C at the begining of the vin.? Maybe a goverment vehicle? Maybe a GMC? Give us some more information or pics we love a good mystery. Have fun

hi it has the original rivits the vin plate is small and only two rivits says chevrolet on it even the title i got with the truck says gs2598744751 states 1972 chevy pick up the #s on the frame only readable letter is a J chris

I checked the # on the frame with the # on the vin plate and they do not match,I know my truck is an original 67 ,The # I looked at are on the side of the frame under drivers side door. Should these be the same? I don't think so,maybe there is a way to match them up ?

My no's on my frame are on the drivers side frame rail in engine compartment for my 72 match the last 8 no"s of my vin.If you want i've been told you can grind the old off and restamp new ones to match your vin legality?????????
