Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
It is all a matter of exactly what you want. It also depends on what seriers muffler you get from either. I've had magnaflows on my last 2 trucks (Dodge & my 02 chevy) and they sound great. My 96 GMC w/350 I had Flowmaster 50 series and still today I think it had the best sound. It just had a certain muscle I like. My 70 has Flowmaster 40 series. They are LOUD and the sound is good, but I am not sure I would rate them as high as the magnflows.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I just put some magnaflows on my truck. I like them because they are suposed to flow better than the flowmaster. They are not as loud as the edelbrock rpm's that i had on my truck before. I'll find out this weekend at the track if they slowed my truck down.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
Flowmasters have more of a raspy race sound where Magnaflows have a tighter deeper rumble and are quieter at idle. Dynomax Ultraflows are in between.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I have 40 series flows on my truck and love them. Had magnaflow's for awhile in highschool but switched to flows because I liked the sound much better.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
spintechs kick @ss!!!!!!! i will never use any other muffler again. flowmasters sound like everything else on the road, except the super 44's those are nice. the magnaflows flow better but are milder at idle..... at wot they scream like nothing else though.
look into the spintechs they are pricey but worth every penny!

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I have flowmasters on my nova and love them. But when I was getting my beater 71 running again I tried thrush welded turbos mufflers from summit. 29.99 a piece, sound almost identical to flowmasters at less than half the price. I will buy these again. bang for buck is awesome.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
With all this said...I have 40's on my 402BB but may switch. I want the rumble coming out of the exhaust pipe and not flowing into in the cab. I have read that spintechs will do just that. My 402 has a mild cam and Tri Y's. Like has been said...what are you looking for in sound. If you can listen to vehicles with various exhaust systems that would help one make up their mind. Just my my ,02 cents. Anyone try the Borla muffler?

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I haven't tried anything else other than Flowmasters and Cherry bombs. I had to ditch the cherries for a more acceptable noise level. But someday I will be trying out the Dynomax, I have heard these on a truck and the sound is almost what I would like.

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I've been thinking flowmaster 40's and dual 3 inch out the back for my 4WD what do you think about that? I'm young and I want loud pipes...

Re: flowmasters v/s magnaflow
I had a set of flows 40's that I transfered between 3 different trucks They do have a great sound but I just bought 50 series to cut down on the interior resonance. I'm also putting a crossover in the new system. With a 476, headers, and dual 3" pipes it should be plenty muscley trough the 50's while allowing the lady and I to hold a civilized conversation while cruising.
That's for a cruiser. If it were a rod I'd go with something rowdier. |
