Re: dash removal 65 help

about 25 spot welds you will need to drill out where the dash meets the windshield

Re: dash removal 65 help

The gauge cluster is held in place with five screws in the bezel, holding it into the dash sheet metal. You will also need to remove the wiring from the back of the head light switch, wiper switch, ignition switch, cigarette lighter and the choke cable, as well as the speed-o-meter cable, oil pressure capillary line and unhook the dash wiring harness, in order to get the cluster out of the dash. When everything is removed, it will tip out of the opening.

I hope this information is helpful and good luck with removing it.

Re: dash removal 65 help

thanks for replies so far everyone. done all above, but it is SOLIDLY hung up in area over top of column. all screws on outside of bezel came out (biligerently?) wanting to twist bottom of dash cross section below bezel probably never been off just open to suggestions. have had to use heat on every bolt so far on truck. don't want to try that & melt face plate. brought this one out of 11yrs. in weeds with more rust than anyone that has seen it would be willing to tackle - major windshield leak for quit a while, she just made a 4 hr. road trip up here & my way home so i ain't giving up thanks again everybody & enjoy this long weekend

Re: dash removal 65 help

In my experience with these dashes panels, there is a little bump in the daash iteself that holds the panel in. I had to use a skinny screwdriver between the dash and the panel to get it to pop out. It's REALLY scary the first time, but once you've done it, it's better the next time(s)

Just go slow, it'll come.

Re: dash removal 65 help

manual choke cable anchor nut is just to left of steering column hits partially onto dash opening on this truck. this & headlite switch are only ones having to come out to tip it out on mine, BUT the problem was the divider between plegi cover & gauge panel were very rough trimmed & hanging up on burrs on inside of dash panel cutout. pried enough to get top out to see what was happening. old harness out & new one started going in. cleaned , painted. & installing tach into panel now. painted from behind to show all exposed metal hanging me up & ground over edge of counter to keep straight. hope this helps anyone else that may find same problem. may be can be added to tach FAQ thread. thanks for everyone that took time to help with advice.
