Bought me some Electric Fans
Found a set of Intrepid Fans at my buddies Salvage yard....so whoever it was that got them free got a hell of a deal. Its still costing me 100 bucks but I think its worth that. Should be able to mount them up on Sat. or Sunday.
Yay!! No more ugly fan shroud or fan blade!! hahaah

Way to go Dave. Where you getting the relays, and thermostats, etc. If they work good, you will love them. I sure love my Spal's. It is so nice to get rid of the shroud and clutch fan.

not sure...prolly just at O'reillys or at Parr automotive. Im trying to decide if I want them on a switch or on a thermostat. The only thing about the switch that scares me is if I leave it on...but i dont think that would happen since I would hear it.
If I do the thermostat...how hard are they to install? What will I need the relays for?? Edumacate me on this.

get the hayden harness at O'RIELYS, they have been working flawlessly for aout 2 years. oh BTW, i am the one that got them free from my buddy that owns a wrecking yard

I also would like to learn about installing elec fans.
If the engine is not turnin the fan that should give a little more power shouldn't it ???

Yes and no. Alternator create the power for the fan. The more power that is sucked from an alternator the more drag it puts on an engine. So you may not have fan blades draggin the engine down, now you just have the alt. draggin the engine down. The alt. doesnt drag as much, but with the electric fan I can notice some engine rpm loss when the fan turns on. You can get a idle compensator to solve this though, like an AC system would use. The plus side is, the fans are way more efficient (?) and only use power when they need it. I have mine on a toggle so I can control it and overide it. I like it that way, except every once in awhile I forget to turn it on in drivethrough. I need a little light to turn on at a certain temp to let me know. Can someone help me with that? But yes an electric fan does rob some engine power, but not as much as a regular fan, and it only robs power when it needs to, not all the time. Its a major plus and everyone should do the conversion.

My Thoughts on engine cooling------------
--- A clean, undamged 4-core radiator --- Coolant return system with a 2 quart or larger reservoir --- Proper operating radiator pressure cap and thermostat --- Close fitting fan shroud which captures the entire radiator core area --- Using a properly operating fan clutch and matching fan. This type of fan does not draw engine horsepower at highway speeds and only when the radiator airflow temperature requires the fan to " kick-in" --- Fan location will have half the thickness of blades inside the shroud, the other half just rearward. --------An aftermarket electric fan to cool an auxillary engine oil cooler or a transmision cooler might be desirable...

Dave,
The main reason for a relay is to have the relays coil handle the power loads the fan draws and not to cause an overload on the main fuse block or worse yet a fire. Never connect a ele. fan direct to your fuse block with out a relay. I pulled the entire relay system for an ele. fan set up out of a 90's chevy corsica and then installed it in my truck and the relay clips into a nifty base so if it go's bad i just have to pull it out and plug in a new one no rewireing required. I also hooked up a thermister in the coil power supply so that when the temp hits 180* it closes and the relay's coil is activated and the fan turns on and any time you are at cruise the fan isn't running due to the increase of air flow and that way you never have to worry about forgeting when to turn it off or on.
