She's on the road again

thank god she's on the road again /end country song voice

i'll save you the pain of looking through the pics i took while dropping the motor in, pics for each body pannel install, and the pics of the kids/wife helping out and cut to the chase and show the final pics.

We started friday night with nothing on the front frame rails. by midnight friday the motor was in, and by 2am saturday, the motor was running and the clip was on and aligned (pretty close at least).

Sunday we backed it out under it's own power and snapped a couple pics. still dusty in all of these shots, but way better looking than when i started.

flipping between these two shots is kinda fun

Then on sunday i buttoned up the rest of the minor stuff and took her for the maiden voyage. this was the first stop:

then today we had to go into cedar falls to help take down some fallen trees from the tornado the night before (post regarding that coming soon). on the way i stopped and got a couple pics.

after cutting down trees for the morning, i went out and toured one of the harder (not hardest) hit areas by the tornado, then i made the 2 hour drive home. not a single problem or concern the whole way. even took the wife and kids out for dinner in the truck after i got cleaned up.

I used to get looks from people when driving it, now i get stares.

I'll have many more pics posted in my build thread. the link is in my sig.

Re: She's on the road again

oh yeah, i had my first bird poop experience on new paint tonight. after dinner i stopped at the gas station for a pop and walked out to see a big ol' bird poop spot on the hood. as my wife laughed the whole time, i backed up to the gas pump and got some paper towels to clean it up.

damn birds...

yeah, that was the only Doh! of the rebuild (crosses fingers). on my way home today, and hour and a half in the trip, i realized i left my wiper arms on the work bench back at my parents.

I'm not planning to do a whole lot of rainy weather driving just yet, but they'll be going back on soon. This truck will be my daily driver, minus the days that the weather man says it's gonna be bad out. I just need to talk to my boss at work to make sure i have dibs on the garage space should it ever start to hail.

i also wanted to post this pic. my 8 year old took it while we were on the way home. how many different reflections do you see??

Re: She's on the road again

That tanker pic is cool- long & low. I wonder what made the fender tip look like it has a "liquid" crumple?

Re: She's on the road again

heh, yeah, that was the first thing i noticed when i got home. makes it look like i have a banged up fender.

i've been scoping out all kinds of spots to get some shots at for the past few months. hopefully in the next couple weeks i'll find, or make, time to go to a few of them and see what i can do. it's been a while since i've played with my camera, and now i have the itch.

Re: She's on the road again

That looks really nice. Are those the full baby moons that go over the center of the wheel or fit into the center of the wheel? If it's the kind that fit over the center where did you get them and how much did it cost because that's what I originally wanted to put on my '68.

HAHA! That's cool! Your door wasn't shut all the way on one of the frames, but that and tree's shadow moving around almost gives it a cartoonish (is that word?) feeling!

Re: She's on the road again

yeah, i noticed that. my brother was the one running the bags while i stood still and took the shots.

the baby moons came with the truck when i bought it. they have made in tiawan stickers on the inside of them. the do cover the whole center of the wheel. I really like this look and will probably keep them for the foreseeable future. however, i do need to take the truck down to a tire place to get an alignment. the place where i'm going sells the Foose wheels that i like. Just not sure i'm ready to toss that kind of coin at my truck just yet. so far i've been pretty budget minded (not what my wife thinks). so getting 20" wheels and tires would nearly double what i have into this build so far.

wow, i got off on a tangent there huh?

bagged and bagged.

RE7's all around, 2.5 drop spindles up front, and 2.5" blocks out back. i also cut the cups down to about 7/8" up front.

with the "frizzle fry fender mod" that i did on the inside of the fender, i can now cruise, and most importantly, turn, completely aired out. albeit, it's a pretty bumpy ride. but it's great to watch the girls ride like that

I saw a set of baby moons on Brothers Trucks website but I'm not sure if they cover the center or push into the center. Are you talking about the Foose Nitrous wheels? Those are the wheels I want to put on my '63 just without the rivets between the spokes and in 17in. all around.

Hey Levi, I knew you could do it.... Lookin' good. I sent Ron a couple of pics.

I think I have the White Truck ready to go, just need to get some tools loaded up.... Not for me, just in case somebody else needs some help.. Heh, heh.
