I NEED one of these...Japanese car show - Page 4 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I was looking at some japanese show coverage, and stumbled on these...
They are a kit (There was a dodge version too ) to make thier "k cars" look like american 67-72 trucks.
Aparently a k car is a vehicle with a 600cc or less motor, they avoid tax and regristration fees, they are made by Daihatsu, or suzuki.
They said the guy standing next to it is only 5 ft tall!

I like them and hate them.I like that there`s a resemblence to our trucks.But,I`d rather see GM do this or a kit made for Astro Vans or something.I just think the Japaneze should do what they do best and the US do what it does best.
It`s like all those Harley-looking Jap bikes.They just aren`t harleys.If you want a Harley,buy a Harley.It ain`t just about the look.It`s about an American icon.When Indian went out of business Honda bought up the name in a ruthless attempt to hold back the competition so they could flood the market with their product(s).This killed any notion of bringing back one of our finest 2 wheeled machines ever.It took decades before the legality was challenged where it was determined there is a statute on "use" of a trademark.Since they hadn`t produced anything in that name they couldn`t hold it anymore.
I just would rather not see our styles stolen for reproduction.I like those little Scions as what they are and it`s what Japan does best.Well,that and mimmicking Mercedes,Audis,Scotch,or whatever else they think we`ll buy.
I wonder if someone here tryed producing these if the Japaneze company would claim their design was stolen?It also makes me feel the trucks i`ve loved for over 30 years has found it`s way to the shelves of Kmart,so to speak.What next?Will these truck prices take yet another spike due to Japaneze investors taking interest?It`s happened to about everything else,including our land.
I know this sounds bitter.But,i`m not.I just look at it all,can`t help it.I just like to present a view from another angle to ponder.

I understand what you're saying...kind of =) I know a lot of fellas on here ride metric cruisers, but personally I would never buy a fake Harley. I also think Indian motor cycles have been long gone. You cant stop making something for decades and decide to bring it back. When someone started up the name again all I thought was someone was trying to make dough on a name. Same as the Bugatti super car. Bugatti has been gone forever, you shouldnt be able to just buy a name like that and call your new car a Bugatti.

All that being said. These little cars with the Chevy noses really arent trying to be Chevy trucks. They are more of a cool little novelty thing. I still NEED one lol.

Every major Japanes company makes them. They are good city get around vehicles. I had a Suzuki Jeep over there with the big engine (at the time) 550cc (regular was 360cc). I think most of them except Honda and Subaru are 2 stroke engines. Anyways that little Jeep would go anywhere, but get her going about 40 MPH and she is cranking 5,000 RPMs.

Not sure about the others ( they're not all the same model) but the mint green 67-72 "mini burb" is a Daihatsu Tanto VS custom.

Currently unavailable in US markets with out some sort of grey market importer.

Those are pretty cool! it would be cool to put some HUGE 10 inch wheels and bags on one.

I think it's a little different than having a honda-davidson or a "fake" harley that everyone is tooling around on trying to make it sound like something it's not....these have a cool factor and not everyone has seen one, especially here in the states. IMO, I don't think they're trying to immitate our trucks, they could of done a much better job.

You guys are misssing one point here.They are tiny as in John Deere Gator, or Kubota small.I know a guy who has a Suzuki from the 70's in his wrecking yard.It is very small but a large guy fits in it OK.
If the US ever gets fuel smart enough to designate driving lanes for mini cars then they may be viable.However that still means you gotta watch out for the soccer mom in her burb changing to the mini lane with no signal and the latte in her right hand and cell in her left.
