Should I offer $3000 for this 71 longbed?

I drove by this little used car lot and noticed this truck; I called him and asked him what he was asking for it and he said $3500, but even though I think it's worth it, I can't bring myself to just pay him without haggling...Think I ought to offer him $3000? It's pretty clean; good tires; later model seat; 350/350; headers; flowmasters; B&M shift kit... I'm probably going to do it; I just wondered if I am a dumb a$$ or if you all think it's a pretty good find?

Just make sure and check out for bondo around the body, you know that is pretty hard to find rustfree trucks in our area, and many people just "fix them" to look just good. If it's pretty solid I'd say is worthy that much.

my .02 cents. good luck.

Well, that thing over the windshield is ugly, but if there isn't any rust that truck looks like it would be worth a lot more than $3k. Go for it.

Well I would offer him $2500.00 if it checks out not to be full of bondo and it's what you want. Then maybe you could meet in the middle at $3000.00. Remember the car lots are expecting you to haggle them down some. I think it's a law or something...LOL Just be prepaired with the cash when you do. Every dollar you save purchasing it is a dollor you can spend enjoying it. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I guess I'll have to go see him tomorrow and do the magnet check for bondo, pop the hood and listen to the engine and comply with the haggle law. Thanks for the inputs....

I would be VERY leary of a truck that looks that good at a used car lot with that low of an asking price. I would really check it out to make sure your not just buying a paint job.

That visor deal is pretty goofy looking, just for that and after it checks out, bring $2,000 cash and lay it on the table. If you really want it bring $2,500 then be cool and walk away but gjive him your number. Good luck.

I'm a Blazer person; I guess the place to look for rust coverup is the cab corners, door bottoms and rear wheel openings (like the Blazers) and the bottom of the tailgate and bed in that area....? Maybe the top of the windshield frame?

Unless it's bondoed AND rusty -- 3k sounds like a steal to me. Truck looks very straight and clean. Where else you gonna get a cool driver like that for 3 large?

It looks like a steal to me. A truck around here would go for a lot more than that, at least from the pictures that you have. I'd offer $750 less and be firm but looks like a good score.
