Suspension Experts- HELP!

I am about to be buying a bunch of suspension parts for my truck and I recently found out they might not work together. I am buying a set of western chassis 2.5" drop spindles and 1.5" springs to lower the front. I also plan to buy a set of NON air bag type upper and lower tubular control arms from CPP. I was looking thru another thread a few weeks ago and someone mentioned that drop spindles and and drop control arms cannot be ran together for whatever reason. It doesnt say anywhere on there site about these being drop control arms. So assuming they are not of the dropping type, will I be able to run drop spindles and these control arms? I am going to try and contact them to find out if these are drops here soon. thanks for your help DOOCE

Re: Suspension Experts- HELP!

I was reading their tech section there is a write up on the install on a older truck. It was using the tubeular arms, 3" drop coils, 2"drop spindles so I would imagine they are not drop control arms. if they where it would put it at 8" of drop which is way to much on a non air suspention (in my oppinion). I have 5 1/2" (3" spindles,1"coils with 1 coil removed) on my 79 and with a 27" tire I'm ok occaisionally it rubs the top of the inner fender. A smaller tire gave me ground clearance issues the crossmember and A-arms would bottom out. mine has about 4' ground clearance at the crossmember. I don't have tube control arms but that shouldn't make a differance in the general mesurments.

Re: Suspension Experts- HELP!

It is not advised to run these dropped spindles and dropped control arms because it puts the bottom of the control are lower than the rim bottom, this is violating scrub, as if you get a flat, you now are skidding across the pavemanet with no control.
If you are running larger rims, this may not be an issue depending on the size, but if you want a HUGE amount of drop, there are other options of getting one down. Alignment on these combined components would be a nightmare. If you ordered the kit from one place, they should advise you of such information.

Re: Suspension Experts- HELP!

The CPP tubular arms arms that I purchased are of stock height design for the 73-87 Chevy trucks. The springs and the spindles that I installed are of a drop design and that is where I got my lowering for my 68 Chevy. I am following the article that CPP put in a older Truckin Magazine, where they had an 87 Chevy K-member and front spindles installed in an older frame (to get the disc brakes and the five bolt wheels) . I changed their install some and used the Bell Tech 3" drop spindles and the #4402 2" drop springs to get the static drop that I wanted. I have plenty of ground clearnace and the rims that I have on their are 15", right now (it is still in the shop and being built), I plan on using a 20" rim when completed. I am also going to use the shock mount upgrades for strength at the frame mount

Re: Suspension Experts- HELP!

Tubular arms can be purchased either way: dropped or not. Just make sure the ones you order are not a 'dropped' version & you'll be able to combine them w/dropped spindles & springs.
