Rack & Pinion Steering?

I sectioned my front cross member and now my steering shaft is hitting my upper A-arm. Has anyone put a rack & pinion in a 72 chevy blazer??? Please help.

I'm pretty sure Porterbuilt does R&P with his dropmemeber.I don't know much about using it with a stock or sectioned crossmember.

Yes there is a member on here that has done this. But I believe he is in the 50's section on the site. Can't remember his name, but he was real nice even sent me a detailed cd of pictures and measurements and such on his rack and pinion. I'll see if I can't dig it up.

Re: Rack & Pinion Steering?

I was able to make my factory steering work. But I will be curious to see what fletch4x4 does on his steering.

Re: Rack & Pinion Steering?

We should work on trying to find a way to adapt this. It cannot be hard.

Re: Rack & Pinion Steering?

Camaro thunder- Did you use the stock tie rod ends? What did you use for adjusters? Did you have to use a rack extinshion?

I have been looking into this also and I think a lot of the aftermarket crossmembers use ??-87 thunderbird power steering racks.

Re: Rack & Pinion Steering?

5/8 rodends for tie rods
Billet adjusters to go from the 5/8 to rack.
Manual Flaming River rack and pinion
Stock crossmember with the ends/cups cutoff and bag brackets welded up.
