Clickin Noise

When I Hit The Brakes On My 90 Burb There Is A Clickin Noise Coming From The Under Side Of The Truck. Any Ideas?

Re: Clickin Noise

Is it just when you get on the breaks hard or every time? Check the shock mounts, control arm bushings, ball joints, body mounts, and leaf spring shackles. After that I’d check the stirring (tie rods, idler arm, etc) though it’s not likely to be one of them it is possible. After that you’re talking engine mounts, trans mounts, calipers, and gremlins. Sometimes it’s just because your trucks old and all the rubber has gone to hell. My truck was doing the same thing when I got on the breaks hard, I’m in the process of replacing all bushings and stirring right now but more for the restore so I didn’t trouble shoot it at all just decided to replace it all.

Re: Clickin Noise

Only Happens When Going Above 15mph And Apply The Brakes, Not Hard Just Regular

Re: Clickin Noise

Not sure on that one. Is it one click or is it more? Mine was if I got on the breaks hard after I stopped completely there was a thunk sound. Like I said I didn’t trouble shout it but as I took it apart I realized I would have replaced everything anyways. When was the last time you did any break work on the truck?

Re: Clickin Noise

I get a random pop here and there...

After looking around. It was my upper arm moving ever so slightly on the bushings....I could see where it was clean, since it was popping back and forth....

The upper arm bushing has a step up on it which spaces it correctly on the bushing...check the to see if the arm is going beyond this bump...

My old upper arm on the driver side was egged out bad....You could put the bushing in by hand and remove it

Re: Clickin Noise

I go back to my original post then. I don’t think anything in the breaks would make it click unless you snapped a caliper bolt or something. I would definitely check the control bushings and body mounts.

Re: Clickin Noise

If the little ears on the outboard brake pads are not bent over properly during installation, there can be a clacking noise when you put on the brakes.

Re: Clickin Noise

If you can't find it, get it to a garage. Don't second-guess suspension, especially when what was a click is now a clunk.

Re: Clickin Noise

i tried to pick up speed and let off the gas thinkin maybe when the tranny shifts. but it wouldnt do it, it only does it when you hit the brakes. it doesn't ride rough or shake, shimmy. on my other truck when the ball joints were going out the truck rode rough and its wieght shifted in a turn. i put it on jackstands tried to move the wheels nothing , I'M LOST on this one.

Re: Clickin Noise

Yeah I'm at a loss. If you checked everything from my first post then I'd take it to a shop and have them trouble shoot it. It could be anything I guess, without looking at it I just don't know. Sorry.
