Decided not to Sell the truck

I have decided not to sell the truck. My wife knows how important the truck is to me, and wanted me to keep it if we could come up with a plan that made it feasible. She and I sat down about a week ago and came up with a plan that lets me sell our third car and a scooter, buy an economical daily driver, and keep the truck as a third/backup vehicle.

Unfortunately it needs to take on a more utilitarian role now, and will be lifted back up to stock height, but it is better than having to part with it. Most of my plans for it will be thrown out. From this point on it will be just a stock truck. No more 700R4 plan, paint jobs, or any of that kind of stuff. It will just be a clean old pickup that doesn't get used often.

I'm going to pull the 12,000 mile 350 crate engine from it and put it in the '37 coupe. The coupe was my father's, and will never be sold, so It should have the better of the two engines. The coupe 350 will get cleaned up, sealed up, and painted before it goes into the truck.

I also need to put a heater core, rebuilt column, and a new exhaust setup on the truck. From that point, I will just be doing whatever I need to do to keep it going.

At least I get to keep it...

Re: Decided not to Sell the truck

why do you have to put it at stock height? just a small drop wont hurt anything unless your moving constantly.

Glad to hear you get to keep it though, gas prices are getting killer. Just keep all the parts youve payed for if you can, incase you ever go to do it again.

Re: Decided not to Sell the truck

With it at stock height, I have more options. It wil be easier to sell if the need comes up. It will also tow the boat better, and if I need to trailer the coupe somewhere in a pinch, I only have to borrow a buddy's trailer. Right now, the boat is about all I can tow with it.

I haven't decided if I will sell the suspension parts or not. I might at some point later want to install them on a cheap beater rustbucket or something. The trucck is currently dropped 2.5/4 with Western Chassis spindles/drop leaves.

Re: Decided not to Sell the truck

Why not just get some helper bags for the back with a schrader valve for when you need the help towing. It will be easier than swapping out all the parts back to stock.

Well at least you and the wife could come to a compromise. I know some women see an extra vehicle as a meaningless item taking up space that is a potential chest full of cash and won't let up until that vehicle is sold and they got cash in their hands. At least she respects the fact that you have a hobby.

That was my original plan for it. The idea now is to avoid spending money on it. It will no longer be much of a toy or a project, so returning it back to stock simply makes the most sense.

I am trying to remove some of the stuff I have on it that makes it so hard to get my money back if I do decide to sell it in the future. If I do have to give it up completely, it will sell quicker and for more money at stock height, and I'll still be able to sell of the stuff I remove. I kept the stock suspension components, so it takes just my labor and the cost of an alignemnt to return it to stock.

Likewise, I have a lot of money (at least compared to the value of the truck) invested in the engine. By putting the engine in the vehcle I am positive I will be keeping forever (the coupe), I won't lose as much money if I ever do decide to sell it.

My wife has always been very supportive of my vehicular hobbies. She's the one who convinced me that we could keep it. She's the best!

That's right. I'm very practical about it all. That's why i was going to sell it. It comes from being both poorly paid and a cheap bastard.

I, too, am glad to have been able to work something out.

I would politely disagree with that theory. You will find a much larger market that appreciates the value of your truck with it slightly lowered.

The market that it attracts with it at stock height won't care how clean the truck is, and will assume it's just another 1500.00 work truck.

Good luck though. Glad your going to keep it.

Re: Decided not to Sell the truck

That is good news . Good to hear that you get to keep it . I sold the black one I had and regretted it . I had the chance to get it back and , even though it was bad timing , I bought it . If you would have sold it I am sure you would have wanted it back someday . There are other trucks but that one is Yours . I am sure it will always have a certain something to you . I think the stance of your truck adds to the appeal of it . I am thinking about putting spindles and springs on the black truck and hopefully it will have the same stance as yours . Frank

Re: Decided not to Sell the truck

Most people (90%) are looking for a clean SWB so that they can lower it. By the way, I made up that statistic. Sounds good though. Keep it low.
