Long & Short Water Pumps

im looking to buy a serpentine belt kit for my truck soon. The one I like says specifically for long water pumps, and I dont see a short pump version at all similiar. Is it alright to change my short pump to a long pump and change everything else to match? Its a '68 327 if that matters. Thanks DOOCE

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

You can use a LWP on a 327. That's what I have on mine.

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

Are you sure it is a Short pump. IE can't get you hand behind it..
If you are getting a serpentine for a Long pump, everything else will match when you swap pumps.
There is nothing specific to the motor that will require a short pump except for the accessory brackets so if they are changing you are fine.

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

You may need a reverse rotation water pump.

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

You don't have one if you are using normal V-belt pulleys.
If you aren't running a serpentine setup, you don't have a reverse flow waterpump.

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

That is a long pump. It is also standard rotation.
You are going to have to get a new reverse pump either way if you want a serpentine setup.

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

not too bad. its still the hang out for all the americans. Chucks, Thirsty Nellys, Hannen Fass, Nacht Shicht is the place to go. The euro rate is crazy right now. it flucuates anywhere from .62 - .64. How long ago were you here?

Re: Long & Short Water Pumps

You don't need a reverse pump for either of those serpentine setups. Nice Kit wouldn't mind havin that myself.
