so to take a 396 to 427 would just require a stroker crank? anybody know if the heads on a 265hp or a 375hp were the same? also crankshaft? i now pistons and cam will be differant. didn't know about hte rest. thankyou

Its not that easy. To convert a 396 to a 427 you would need a 427 or 454 block. I don't think you could bore a 396 enough to get it to 4.25 bore. The 396 and 427 share the same 3.76 crank. The 427 and 454 share the same bore of 4.25, but the 454 has a 4" crank.

I got to see this motor in person at the gm perf parts both at heartland park Topeka, the vendor had to get a rag and wipe the drool of of it. I do recall him saying limited production numbers on this baby though so by the time i would save enough money they would be all gone.... and probably antique LOL!!!!

I dont know how I missed this thread, but because it was already mentioned. I think the best engine ford ever built was teh 428 cammer. I would love that engine, but I haven't seen any of them for under 15K. If I were to ever bastardize a chevy that would be the engine I would use.
