Need to borrow a "plastic small block" in Colo.
I am putting a 283 in my '53 3100. Does anyone have one of those plastic
small blocks to use for a mock up to set up my tubular engine cross member? I would pay rent, leave a deposit and pick it up and return it. I live in NW Denver. x10thaircav@yahoo.com |

Those do make it easier but one of my buddies just uses a gutted block with a pan and heads on it with a gutted trans. All out of the junk pile. True he has to use the hoist to move it around but hanging a small block in that pickup isn't that hard. Your big problem is going to be clearance between the left exhaust manifold and the stock steering box if you run it.
I run a cast iron V8 pickup bellhousing that fastens to the rear mounts on my 48 with the 250 6 but I don't know if you would have enough head and dist clearance with the V8. |

For that price I can hang one of the bare blocks I have from my chain hoist or my cherry picker a lot of times.
I'll admit that there have been times when I was horsing a cast iron block around to fit things up that one of the plastic ones would have been nice and If I was fitting engine mounts on a daily or a few times a week it would make sense. Not worth it for one build though. |
