2 hours / 150 miles. Time is assuming no rush hour traffic - yeah right...

Re: Good History Overview of Our Trucks

Right off the bat I read,"The Glamour Truck",and I`m turned off.Where does that come from?I never heard that in all these years.GM introduced them as "The New Breed" and I never see anyone refer to that. There are too many self proclaimed experts coming out of the woodwork with these truck`s recent huge increase in popularity.IMHO
I also believe that since WWII these trucks have been taking leaps with each new design towards a better looking, convenience oriented truck, along with improvements to mechanics and workability. There have been Custom Cabs with more glass offered since after WWII as well as bright mouldings. What about a`55 Cameo?Automatic transmissions and V8s offered in the`50s?A/C way before`67 when most cars weren`t using it?Coil springs way before`67?Overdrive?
The New Breed took it to another level, for sure,as did every new design has since WWII and before. It was the designs of the time that made a difference. If the 60-66 isn`t a "glamour truck" then what is?They were all about style. So much that they became outdated as fast as all the cars from the "jet age".But,look at them now. They are anything but understated and had most of the features of the67-72s except for body panels. From 67-72 there was a transition towards a more modern era. But,today looking back from where we are now,the people who are just discovering these trucks see them as what a`72 is.There are few differences from the "totally new designed`67" and the "old-style`66" other than sheetmetal.

Re: Good History Overview of Our Trucks

Another reference is that 1971 saw a new style offered, that of a 3/4-ton Longhorn.

Geeze, didn't the author do any investigational history of our trucks?

It just goes to show you that having something in print doesn't mean that it can't be incorrect. I should know.....I've been proven wrong many times.

Heck, he even called the first picture a '68, when it's lack of marker lights clearly screams "'67"!

Re: Good History Overview of Our Trucks

The 67-72 era was the first design that caught the eye of the non-truck people. They finnally began to view it as a modern acceptable alternative to a car. They fail to realize the real homework was done by GM in the 60-66 period. Eliminating the I beam front suspension and leaf spring rear axle were jaw dropping to the industry in 1960.The second refinement was done is '63 with the modern coil front suspension. The 66 model, for example, could be optioned with air-conditioning, 3 speed automatics, 292 sixes and 327's, power steering and power brakes, many of the features, but not all, found on the 67-72's. The attention given by the public was more to the design, and little credit to the mechanical innovations of the previous era.

Re: Good History Overview of Our Trucks

^Right on!,brother^

It was actually a gradual progression since WWII.The Advance Design had the gentleman farmers in mind and was billed as a truck you could drive to town on saturday night after running chores all week.A roomier cab, curved glass, and a more integrated body style.Since back then the trucks have kept pace with the advances seen across the automotive industry.
