I've just installed a new Sony CD receiver in my truck. Now I need to replace my speakers and add an amp. I'm considering Sony Xplod or Rockford Fosgate. Has anyone here used either brand, and have any informed opinions. I'm kinda leaning towards the Sony line, as everything else around here is Sony (digital cameras, Tivo recv'r, 2 TV's, VCR, stereo, PDA etc, etc....). Reason I ask is that on this (or the other list), I think I remember someone saying that their home equipment was good, but they didn't think much of their auto equipment. So far the CD player has been great. Any and all comments welcome. Thanks, Ken

Punch=great and a little pricey

like any decision how much ya wanna spend?

Wow. I won't buy another Sony product for my vehicle again. You are right, all of their other stuff is great. I just don't like their car audio equipment. As far as Rockford Fosgate, never was a fan. I hear thier newer stuff is better, but still not for me. Best thing I can recomend is go with what you like. See if you can listen to different brands preferibly in a vehicle and see what appeals to your liking. True it depends on what you want to spend...to some extent. The right componets hooked up in the proper fashin in the proper location of your vehicle will sound great.

I have two Sony Xplode 12" subs. To me, they sound great. I'm well satisfied with them.

I've been running an extremely old R/F Punch 60 amp for years now. I've pushed Xplod 12's with it, then I upgraded to R/F 12's, and finally, Kicker comp VR's. It's a hard hitting amp, even without a capacitor. Fosgate amps are great, IMO, but their speakers/head units leave a lot to be desired.

I'm running an Xplod deck in my Ramcharger, and I love it. It's the first Sony car audio product I've ever had good luck with though.

Like Ric said though, just go with what you like. It is, after all, your money

I have a Sony deck (which is about 4-5 years old) and I love it. Their new stuff looks a little funky, but that's just my opinion. The Rockfod Fosgate stuff is expensive, and I've heard the only good thing their for is amps and subs. I would go with Sony if it was my money. Try to keep the same brand speakers all the way around. It sounds better that way.

actually rockford's head units are really good quality.. u can just find better for cheaper

I've had some bad luck with my Jensen 4 disc changer. I had to return one because it wouldn't play anything and my current one is losing its display.

My friend has fosgate subs that sound really good with his pioneer deck.

personally i wouldnt recommend either brand, sony is ok for entry level audio, and rockford is good for subs and amp but they are very pricey. I would go with a more intermediate/high end company like kicker, or pioneer. For subs you cant beat the solobaric L5 for price or product. but full range speakers, i would have to go with pioneer they have great quality at the same price as sony does.

Different head units sound better or worse depending on who you talk to. Pick the one that sounds the best to you, thats who will be listening to it. I personally have had nothing but good luck with Pioneer stuff. They are an awesome value. The only thing I would avoid is Jensen products. I have run amps and head units from them and they leave a lot to be desired

I just want to thank everyone for their input on stereo components. I think I'm going with a Kenwood amp, as the Sony amps only have 2 channels and I don't want to give up my rear speakers or split the signal. I also found (personally heard them) that the Rockford Fosgate amps are excellent for driving subwoofers but not very "clean" beyond that.
Probably going to use Xplods for the rear speakers, maybe Rockford component speakers with a separated tweeter. I'm no stereo expert, I just wanna listen to some music while I cruise. Again, thanks for all the opinions. I knew I could count on you youngsters
