Update on selling my Blazer and latest weird ideas of mine

My and the wife got to talking about money this weekend, like many families I am sure are doing across the county. I had posted earlier about possibly selling the Blazer due to my job getting cut back and other bills. Anyway, she said that she really does not want me to sell the Blazer unless we really HAVE to. Her thoughts were that we bought it as family project so we could all go to car shows together. Also, she mentioned how long and hard I looked for a Blazer including some trips into Washington that she went with me. The kicker though, is the fact that it is my old Blazer and I will never have a chance to get it back if I sell it. So who am I to argue when a woman is thinking like that. (No offense gals)

Now for the weird ideas. I have really be looking into converting the Blazer to run propane. The upside is that it will be easier to install than the EFI set up that I have and it does not rot if it sits like gas. Also, it is about 25 cheaper then gas to run. The other thing I am looking into is going with a NV4500 for the trans. The clutch pedal is still hanging from when it I had it the first time, and I kind of would like to see it go back to being a stick for some reason. The whole package would get rid of any computers and be reliable for when I wanted to drive it. I am still in the research stage, but I would appreciate any input on my latest madness.

I've been thinking about natural gas in the Blazer now that theres a 454 in there. Dual fuel: CNG for cruzing and gas for when I want power. I work with a guy that converted a 90's suburban with no problems. natural gas here is like .73 a gallon

If money is tight, wouldn't it be cheaper to just keep it as is for now and drive it for weekend fun? Sure the cost of gas is high, but it will take a while to off-set the cost of installing the items you're talking about. I'd rather see you park the truck and keep it than spend more on it and end up having to sell.

Right now the plan is to keep it like it is. We only run it for very local car shows as it is now. The plan is more for long term. The way it sits now, it is pain to drive with the 454 winding hard at anything over 45 mph since it has the 4:56 gears. So at some point an OD trans needs to go in along with a small block that fits in the engine compartment better. Part of the overall plan that we are considering is getting rid of my 1996 Bronco at some point. I am driving a little fuel economy car right now and it is just sitting. My thought was that the Bronco and Blazer really serve the same functionally and why not drive the Blazer since it WAY cooler. So, the end goal is to get the Blazer drivable for when ever I would need it for towing, camping, hunting or car shows. Cost wise, the conversion is inline with doing the EFI set up, but it something I can do with no fears of the electronics not working right.
