NOS Seat Cover

Found a NOS 67 bench seat black covers today at a antique mall in MS they have never been on a truck seat and didn't feel brittle. Now the question is after 40 years in a box will they stretch out and look good or quickly fall apart by me sitting on them. Is there something to help keep them more pliable longer. I just don't want to ruin a good set thru ignorance any help is appreciated I am going back to get in the morn unless putting them on will just make them fall apart.

Re: NOS Seat Cover

wonder if you should put it out in the sun to soften it up a bit? and would a vinyl conditioner help?

wow, I never thought of how to resurrect a seat cover...... hope you get some more hints!

Re: NOS Seat Cover

with Doug.... I would try to let it out in the sun to soften up, that is if it's not brittle already. You might try some vinyl dressing of sometype to try and revive the life out of the cover.

What a score! Any pics?

Re: NOS Seat Cover

Try some Armor All (or similar) on it. Apply it liberally, let it soak in real good and see if it will soften it up. I believe in this stuff.

I started using it on all my cars when the product first came out and have never had plastic dashes, seats, etc., get brittle and crack on me. Prior to that, it seems all of them would start cracking in this hot Texas sun after a few years.

I used it on my 68 GMC dash pad when I first bought. This truck had been parked in a barn for 25+ years when I bought it and the dash pad seemed hard and brittle.

The armor all softened it up real nice but not before I made a small crack on the bottom of it by pushing on it . It's not very visible but still I know it's there.
