Anybody Get Their Truck Painted @ Earl Scheib Or Maaco or...?

...any of the other "cheapo quickie" paint shops?
How does it look? How many $$$ did it cost?
Just looking to put some shine on my truck and not too worried about an "eye appealing" paint job.

You get what you pay for. I had my 79 Z28 Camaro painted at Earl Scheib for about 800.00 base coat clear coat and it came out pretty good. It has been well over a year and it still looks good. Not bad considering it is out in the weather all the time. Wootdog

I had my Oldsmobile done at Maaco for $500. They did a good job repairing the rust pits and the holes from the vinyl top (it cracked and water pooled inside it rusting the roof in a few spots).

They did a bad job with the badging, they broke it off and then simply glued it back on. I could see the glue marks and the badges have since fallen off. I suggest you remove all of your badging yourself first so you can keep the clips.

Finally, I did this about 3 years ago and the paint is already fading really badly. They apparently didn't get the topcoat on well. It lasted just long enough to get them out of warranty.

I'm not too upset because I could only afford that service and it fixed the major rust problems with the car. I'd spend more on a paint job that I expected to last though.

I did ALL my own prep such as removeing ALL the chrome, door handles Locks ect ect. It was primed and wet sanded. They pulled the bed and painted behind cab and front of bed, fender rails under hood and outer door jams to match what I painted on the inside. All in all looks REAL GOOD for a daily driver

My black 72 was painted at Maaco in 91.We did all the bodywork and remover all the trim.It was $390 then and still looks decent.

the quality of the job you get dosen't really depend on the name on the sign. what i mean is you could go in one macco and pay 500 and get the dirtiest crappiest paint job ever. and you could go into another and get a real decent job. the people working there and the painter have alot to do with it.

a good friend of mine managed a macco, and another friend was the painter. they turned out some really nice paint jobs. especialy if they new whos car it was they were painting. while i was trying to sell my '64 i decided to get it painted there and it needed alot of clean up work. i was getting a major hookup and paying around $700 for a ton of body work and base/clear paint. while it was in the shop one of the detailers bought it from me so i never saw it painted but after a few days they had the body straight as an arrow.

what you need to do is go look at cars that are coming out of there booths and see what kind of work the shop puts out. also talk with the painter about what your want to do and see he knows what your standards are.

a friend of mine had his GMC he used to have painted at a Earl Scheib in Tempe,Az and in my opinion it was a terrible paint job.the bed,cab and front clip were all 3 different mixes of the same color and yes it was that obvious,there was run marks in the paint everywhere and even some overspray on things.all in all if i was in the market for a paint job i wouldnt go to an Earl Scheib based on that but i guess you have to learn for yourself as well.its hit or miss with them as with anything else

Had two older trucks painted at Earl Schieb in Mesa Arizona and they came out good. I got their deluxe paint job (in white ) and body work ( repair dents and sanding off pealing paint ) on both trucks . They charged between 6 and 7 hundred for each truck . Each shop is different and you can't go by just the name you have to see their work .

You really do get what you pay for , Like really for 500.00 paint included, your only getting a couple hours labour there, What you got to do is a little leg work, look around for a good painter, try the paint supply place, they would give you a name of a painter thats moonlighting, ask about his work, and Like some one here said check out his work. Around here a lot of times a painter will spray your truck for 100.00 to 150.00 plus the booth with is usually 100.00 plus paint which could be 300.00 for single stage or 600.00 for base clear. I've had good luck this way. Cause if your dealing directly with the painter, chances are you'll get a pretty good job. If you take it to those cheapy guys that's what you'll get

I will birddog a local Maaco close to here, and maybe the Earl S. and see what theyb are spitting out. I would ask the guy who is going to repaint my Bee what he would charge but...he is high $$$..and dosent know how to short cut. It is going to cost 11.5K for my car so I would not insult him by asking to shoot my beater p'up!

I'd stay with MAACO, I use to sell spray booth filters to them when I had my own business.They do a much better job . My mom had her car painted at Earl Scheibs and the paint on the top of the car peeled off 2 years latter.

I just got a estimate from Maaco and One -Day up here .
I didn't like the work that came out of One -day ,light colors I could see primer behind the paint.
Maaco quoted me 1495.including the body work and prep. My truck didn't need too muck body work about 20 holes to fill and two small dents one on the upper bed and another behind the rear wheel. Plenty of surface rust though.
Two tone paint including the bed and door jams.

The first paint job my 70 SWB received was the one I did myself. I learned a great deal of respect for those who can put down paint. I got enough epoxy primer and paint on it to keep it from rusting for a couple of years. It looked great from 100 yards.

Maaco did the current white paint for $400. They did a good job with the paint. There was no body work and I stripped everything not to be painted.

im not saying i wont go to an earl scheib period i just meant i wouldnt go to the one in Tempe my buddy got his truck painted at.

I have never had one painted by either of the mentioned companies but,I saw an absolutely great macco paint job a while back.$800.00 and it was really nice."BUT" the owner of the Chevelle it was on did all of his own body work and prep.The chrome and emblems were removed and it was wet sanded and cleaned. The owner said the trick was to find the painters trigger.He boosted the gun handlers personal ride with a HEI he had on his spare parts shelf.So if you get to know the painter and find out what makes him tick........
