What's a good solid cab worth with no title?

I have a friend who has a good solid 68 cab with no title, what's it worth? How would I get a title for it? What's the GM part #'s for a 67-68 core support, and a 69-72 core support? The same friend has a good core support but I need to know if it will fit my 72.

Re: What's a good solid cab worth with no title?

Depends on your location (and you are in the expensive region with me)...

Out West sometimes people can't give these cabs away - here in the MidWest - everything that is still around has either been rebuilt or been used sparingly (if at all) in the elements...

Without a title (and no rust - as in ready to paint/install) you are looking at around $1000 (3 in the past few months have sold in Cleveland (Ebay) for the bare cab with no rust/title) - and the scale slides downward from there...

If your friend wants it out of the way - offer a couple hundred and see if they bite...

Post some pix if you can and we can give you a better idea...

With as many of these trucks that get parted out I am sure vin tags, titles and matching SPIDS are available.

A 68 core support is different than the one you need for your '72. Core support

Lks dcvn, you could really get $1000 for a good cab w/out a title up there? I need to gather up some old trucks and move that way for a while! Good cabs w/titles go for $200-$500 out here. W/out a title and you'd be hard pressed to give it away.

Re: What's a good solid cab worth with no title?

Riveted1, I know that a 67-68 core support is different than a 69-72 core support. What makes them different? I don't know what the GM part # is on it yet to determine whether or not it will fit my truck.

Where is the title? Is it still "attached" to another truck? (stayed with the frame of another build)
Is the VIN plate still attached? Any "legal documentation" for any of these transfers?
Here in Ohio, that cab would be "shakey" at best. If it showed up at the BMV inspection station, they would confiscate it until you could prove it's legality. Here, to get it titled properly, you would need proof of ownership of the new cab and the existing title to the rest of the truck that you are working on. These would be "combined" and a new VIN attached to the truck as a complete unit.
SPIDs are nothing but "Service Parts Identification" labels. They are there to show specific "options" and trim levels. Although the VIN is on there, it is just to tie the SPID to that specific truck. I don't think that there is any legal issue with SPID tags. They just identify things like gear ratio, engine, transmission, paint colors, etc. They are there to help the dealer and owner get the right parts when servicing/repairing the vehicle. It's a guideline, not a requirement.

That cab's value depends a lot upon how much work you are willing to put into it to swap it and make it legal, versus repairing the rust of your existing cab and skipping the inspection title hassle.

Sorry, that's what I get for assuming I guess. I assumed since ur friend had the 68 cab that the core support was from the same truck.

Seems like the newer core supports have headlight buckets and the older ones do not.
