OK here's my problem. I currently roll in a '67 Chevy LWB Fleet. It's my driver, but like alot of you guys....it's a work in progress. As of now I have a slighty better replacement bed that I'm about 1/2 way done with cutting down to SWB dimensions. Initially, I was hell-bent on cutting and welding the LWB frame to get things down to size, but fate intervened and dropped a dude in the next town over who is selling a '72 SWB rolling frame. Eureka! I can just slap my motor, tranny and sheetmetal on this frame and have my shorty. Yeah...... I've been waiting for this guy to yank the carcass out of the tooley-weeds for about 2-months now with no commitment in sight. Fast forward to a couple days ago when I spot a '67-72 SWB truck way, way, way in the back lot of this jankity old industrial building. So I stop by and ask the guy what the story on the "yellow chevy" is. He said that he'd sell it because he only got it by doing his niece a major solid when she got in cash trouble. I wandered back there and checked it out. Sorry- I'll get pics tomorrow. Nonetheless it's a '67 GMC small window SWB. It's a low-option truck, but does have the disc brake & 5-lug conversion, lowered springs, SBC engine (of unknown condition) and 3 speed manual tranny. No PS, No PB. original pale yellow paint, '80's vintage saw-blade alloys. It's complete and exhibits very little rust except for the DS rocker. He said I can drag it out of there for a cool grand!

Do I keep hackin' on the LWB and wait for the guy with the rolling frame for $250 and fraken-fab my own shorty? Or do it chalk up my LWB experience and just get the factory shorty and rob parts off my CST to upgrade the brakes and steering and whatever else I want?

If you can get the swb for a grand i would do it. I started off with a factory long wide and ended up cuting the frame down and tried to find a short wide. Now 1500.00 later and 2 years later i finally got a short wide bed. The bed is not in that great of shape but can be worked out for about 500.00 by a buddy of mine. In my case i would rather had the swb to start off with!!!

check to see if it's a coil or leaf rear if that matters to you since it is a gmc... but sounds like a deal.

Yeah, I already checked...it's leaf sprung. I'm not worried though- I still have my coil spring 1/2 ton LWB that I can rob the trailing arms and brackets off of for the swap.
I think I'm gonna get the shorty- I've always wanted one and a thousand bucks for a complete relatively rust free version is a good deal. The wife thinks I'm absolutely out of my mind and will probably have a kaniption when she finds out I'm going to part out and / or scrap my current ride, but that's the name of the game sometimes. Don't be suprised to find some parts of mine on the "for sale" forum here in the coming days and weeks.
