i started putting some long tube headers on my 68 today that came on a 70 that i parted out. i got the drivers side on from the bottom. but the pass. side is being a pain. i took the starter off and tried to put in up from the bottom but i am hitting lines and stuff trans. & brake lines. and now it looks like the starter needs to be back on before i can bolt the header on. i am starting to think i shouldn't have started this upgrade. thanks for any help.

Pretty sure i took mine out from the top. just takes some time and patience

If I remember right, when I did mine, I had to loosen the starter to get the collecter past, otherwise there was no interference.

Then bolted the starter up, and then the headers.

Just takes some wiggling and some patience.

Please, put down the BFH, sir...

And in my opinion, they're worth it, simply for the noise factor. But then again, I would think that.

The passenger side has to go in from the top. What brand of headers are they?

My sbc Hedmans went in from the bottom on both sides. No interference at all.

mine was used they came on a truck i bought eng. was gone when i got it. i think they are hooker brand headers. i will try again maybe monday. thanks for the help.

To get my Hedmans in I just unbolted the engine from the mounts and lifted it about and inch and they slid in very carefully, both sides from the top. I didn't have to disconnect anything else.

*edit* now that a think of it they may not have both gone in through the top. Either way though, in my case the starter stayed on I just lifted the engine. *

I think when I had my Hedmans I had to raise the block on the passenger side as well. Definitely had to remove the starter entirely.

i got the pass. side on today. but when putting my plugs back in and wiring it back up i notice back plug on drivers side would not go in. p.o. put them in to tite and messed up that plug hole.i think i have a burnt valve on that side anyways so i am going to take the head off and have it redone and retread the spark plug hole. i was getting ready to put my alum. high rise intake and elderbrock carb on it anyway so i will go ahead and fix the head while the eng. is down that far. so it will be a little longer before i get to here how it sounds. but i should have a few more horses to feed when it's done.

Don't forget to richen up the carb with the headers on.
