Wood Bed Floors for SWB

Has anybody made a wood bed floor for the 73-87 SWB? I know that none of the companys make them. Just curious how you did it. To make it look original, the steel floor would have to be removed and the wood floor supports (idn if thats what they are called?) would have to be installed. Would a kit from a 67-72 SWB work? Please post pics if you got em.

Stepper beds came stock with wood planked floor's.

I saw someone awhile back that came out with a kit for the fleety beds it may have been Bruce Horkeys wood or Mar-K can't remember.

Good luck.

iv'e been lookin into this myself...horkeys has got everything.you can do it either way.if your beds not finished you can do it from scratch with new frame supports and everything.or,if in like my case.where iv'e got a spray on.they make a show deck overlay.i've seen them at car shows and if done correctly you can't tell its an overlay.i don't have any pics though.

Re: Wood Bed Floors for SWB

well i just called horkeys. they said they did not have a 73-87 steel to wood bed floor conversion kit like they do for 67-72. He pretty much said they only way to do, to look factory, would be to go find the flange that goes around the outer edge of the inside of the box from a lwb and fit it to mine, then buy all the parts I needed and cut the extra length off. Since all they have over here are vws and bmws, I guess I'll have to wait til I get back to the states

I was gonna say, I have yet to see anyone offer a wood bed kit for 73-87 short fleetsides. GM never offered it either for that particular setup.

Re: Wood Bed Floors for SWB

yeah, thats what the guy kept telling me. "Just buy the overlay, it looks good". I know it would be easier to buy it, but I don't think it's what I am looking for. I'll probably end up figuring out a way to do it myself and look original. But only when I get back to the states where the parts yard actually has chevys.
