Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Scottsdale-Custom Deluxe

I always assumed the Silverado package was nicer than the others, any other differences?

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

the custom deluxe was a bare bones truck rubber mat, usually no air, roll down windows, metal roof, vynal seat, untinted glass, light duty suspension, alot of the time no radio basically a stock fleet truck
when you got to silverado there was carpet, radio, air, power accessories, colorkeyed stuff, fancier door panels, a headliner in later years tinted glass, better springs trailer ball bumper body side moldings etc
its hard to say what the differences in between were as i have a scottsdale that has no carpet and had cheap interior panels but did have air .. i know it came with metal moldings on the side and a hood ornament

I forgot the Scottsdale, don't remember seeing too many of them. Not to mention GMC; Sierra, High Sierra, Sierra Classic, etc.

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

My Silverado has manual windows and locks, and came without a front swaybar. I have seen lower trim level 73-87s with swaybars, power windows, and power door locks from the factory, though. I guess you can't assume anything with the trim levels.

My '73 is Cheyenne Super, the top of the line package up until '74. Mine came with the fancy interior, vinyl headliner, woodgrain, all gauges, tachometer, 'soft-ray' glass, A/C, 454, 3.73 posi rearend, th400, side trim, chrome grille, two-tone lime green and white...looks like hell now, but I bet she was a sight to see off the assembly line...

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

the 73-87 link above describes the trim levels accurately. With sway bars, A/C, axle ratios, engine/trans configuration, etc, ya'll are confusing options with the trim levels. They were not packages like Z28 which came with X items including engine, accessories etc. Those were Gentleman Jim, Beau James, Sport, etc. Trim levels were just appearance levels...

You are probably right about us confusing the trim levels with options, but didn't the higher trim levels usually have more options??

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

Trim levels such as Silverado, Bonanza (sorry but that word makes me lol), Cheyenne, etc., were, as far as I know, strictly appearance as well as what options were AVAILABLE.

Silverado was supposed to be the upscale appearance trim level, but really it's a matter of preference. Usually the higher the trim level, the more options, but it's not uncommon to see Silverados with very few options on them. It's just an appearance package.

My Silverado came with the full dash w/ clock, brushed trim, different mouldings and tailgate. The options were A/C, AM radio w/ FM convertor. No power doors, no power locks, no dome light, and the smallest V8 and tranny combo possible.

I think the only way to know for sure is to score a vintage brochure. I've seen a good number of these trucks now and no two have had the same set of options.

Ther was actually a plain custom trim model below the custom deluxe - so custom deluxe was not bottom of the line.

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

my '86 Silverado is an odd one, manual windows and locks, 305/th350, cargo lamp and interior dome lamp and under dash lamp, carpet, a/c, cruise, tilt, and softray tinted glass. Like said above, I don't think i've seen 2 of the same yet.

I think "Custom" was the base model in 73 & 74. Then in 75, the Silverado replaced the Cheyenne Super as the top trim model, and then Custom Deluxe became the base... Am I right??

My custom deluxe had wheel well trim, sport rear bumper, orangey red with a white top, and AM radio with the single speaker in the center of the dash.

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

I'd be curious to see a vintage build sheet or customer order form for these trucks... it almost seems like there was just a huge list of options and buyers could check what they wanted or didn't want regardless of trim.

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

Power windows were an option, power locks were an option. Getting Silverado trim didn't get you these....

The link on Jeffs page was put together from Sales Brochures detailing the options listed. KIILew put it together and he KNOWS these trucks and has all the info listed...

Re: Difference between Silverado-Cheyenne-Bonanza-Custom Deluxe

My 1988 siverado v30 has a sunroof. It is a conversion package from Sport Trucks Ltd. I just wonder if it was a factory sunroof or if the conversion company did it? It also has pw,ac,tilt, cruise captain front seats and a rear seat that lays down into a bed and all covered in a lovely red velour. And an added bonus was the matching curtains across the rear window.

Sunroof was put in by the conversion company, it wasn't factory.
