help with choosing wheel offset

Can anyone tell me if a 18x9 wheel with 5.95"BS and a 1.25" spacer would look right and fit on my 84 with a 5/6 drop? Or, 20x8.5 w/24mm offset and 20x10 w/22mm offset and the same 1.25" spacer. Please help, I've got to order my wheels soon or I'll go mad.

I have 15x10s on mine with 6 1/2" backspace. If you figure your wheel is actually 1" wider than the size(they measure inside the lip, where the tire bead seats) my wheel is 11" -6 1/2" =4 1/2 to the curb side.

If you use a 9" wheel, which is really 10" wide, -5.95" backspace plus a 1 1/4" spacer, that leaves 5.3" curb side.

I have really fat Mickey Thompsons, which bulge out a lot, and they don't rub the fender. I would imagine the 18" tires aren't much wider than the wheel. You may want less backspace, or the wheels will be set pretty far inside the fender.

Are you sure on the metric backspacing numbers? I get 24mm=9 7/16, which is wider than the wheel.

I would recommend getting a buddy, and a tape measure, and rock your truck back and forth, like it's in a corner. Measure the movement from the fender and the tire write it down. Take off the wheel. Use a straight edge, straight down from the inner fender lip to the ground, and measure from the flat surface the wheel mounts against, and the straight edge off the fender. Subtract for body sway, and that's what you need, curb side, including the bulge of the tire.
