C20 to K30

I have a 72 chev 3/4 ton 2wd, i pulled the ifs and i now have the dana60 sitting under there. Im wondering what the best way to center and square the axle is since i have to mount it myself. I was thinking of leveling the truck, and plumbbobing down the center of the fenders, and then check off of some factory holes on the frame. It looks like the leaf mounts should be inline with the rad support mounts. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

The springs i have now read 44 3/4 in. unweighted center to center, they are 80's style 8" lift springs.

The main thing i need to know is the hole location for the front of the leafs.

This is kinda tough altering two things at once with no baseline.Those springs should be 52" springs.I realize unloaded they will measure less.I guess you need an answer from someone that has converted a 67-72 to 73-up 52" springs.If you had stock 52s I`d say center it to the wheel well.But,I have no idea whether your springs will settle equally front and back.Don`t worry,there`s someone that will chime in that has done this before long.I`d think the steering linkage would determine the axle location if you are use the stock configuration.

Set the shackle hanger behind of the ebake cable "bump out", near the first cab mount... Looks like you want to move it about 2-3" back from that picture. The spring will stretch that far back, I have a nice shackle angle, once I settled some weight on it. This is the driver's frame rail.



I set my shackles for 10 degrees.

You can see on the inside, that I used the inner body mount rivets to place the shackle hanger. The plate you see is a template for drilling that guides the hole saw. It's part of the Beyond52 kit, that matches the dimensions of the shackle hanger itself. I rotated the shackle hanger to get out of the body mount and the ebrake cable "bump out".



You can see that my spring mounts in front are forward of my radiator mount. The DIY kit replaces the front mounts:



You'll lose some of the 8" of spring lift you have, but generally speaking a 52" spring in front will net 4" of lift via the spring itself and brackets.

My springs in the front of my rig are from a 91 K5. They were 4" lift springs... more pics in my sig and I am happy to take measurements, if you like. I used the stock holes as measuring points.

Both the K5 and the C/K 30 have 52" springs in the front.

With an 8" lift, 52" long spring, you will probably be close to 10" lift over stock...

What do you plan to run for a tire?
