Door Locks

Hey, the doors and latches on the crew cab work exceptionally well compared to many other trucks of this era. HOWEVER, the locks don't work. Not with the key and not with the actuator/push nob on the door. These are manual lock doors.

I'd really like to get a complete set of new door locks to put in that will all use the same key. .

Where should I look for new parts besides LMC? Is LMC the best for new parts such as these?

How much a PITA is it to change them out? Is the process covered nicely any manual? Helms? on here as a DIY somewhere?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Door Locks

Should I just go ahead and go with electric? I DO like the notion of power door locks.

Here again though, where to look for quality pieces. I know there's bunches of options on Ebay for this but I'm not real sure which ones are good and which ones are cheap and won't last long.

Re: Door Locks

Door locks are somewhat easy to change. Pull the door panel roll window up there is a clip that holds the lock in. remove the clip and the lock will come out. you will need to remove the actuating paul from the lock and re-use it most lock kits don't include them. You can get the replcement locks through LMC, Brothers trucks, or even try a local locksmith.

Re: Door Locks

I bought the lock set that has matching ignition key and doorlocks. So now i have no round key. I got mine from classic parts of america. It's a quality lock set, and even comes with GM Keys with the code plugs in the keyring hole. The doorlocks are super easy once you get to em. My haynes manual didn't have instructions for my 78's column, but had detailed instructions for later 80's columns.

Here's a link to the 79-91 key set for 23.95 + shipping

Re: Door Locks

Now we're talking.

Thanks folks, I'll check these options out. How about electrical ones? Doesn't seem like there is much to hooking them up.

Re: Door Locks

If the locks are not working at all, are all the rods attached? Will the cylinder turn at all?

Re: Door Locks

when i bought my truck it didn't come with a key for the door locks, so i made a quick trip down to the junk yard and pulled a set. the only hard part was finding a truck that still had the door key. cost me $8 and they are still nice an shiny.

Actually taking the locking mechanism out is easy as pie. As far as installing a power lock system...no clue.

Oh, and if they don't work at all, i would agree, you should see if everything is connected right before you do anything else.
