5 1/4" on a 3.73 carrier i have here where your 5.3" measurement exists, thats with bearings installed, but they appear ot be flush with the hubs they are pressed on, so...
3866116 is the casting number on it

what year is that one, may be a gov lok...

Thanks for the reply Fast. I don't know what year it is. The guy I got it from said it is an Army surplus NOS unit. The casting number on it is: 30060, and has Armasteel cast on it too.

That isn't a Gov Loc. If that is for 3.73 or higher I will buy it from you if you want to sell

Step, that unit looks to be an Eaton posi. I have some dimensions listed below that should help to identify a 3 versus 4 series carrier. Take the dimension between the ring flange face (where you have it) and the closer bearing seat. This is the opposite bearing that you have referenced and the dimension taken at the seat, not end bell. I would say that what you have is probably a 4 series unit (3.73 and up gears).

3 series – 0.895”

4 series – 1.145”

Dual quad, I measured the dimension you gave. I got 1.150. This was holding a straight edge and using calipers,(and being anxious). I now know what I have. You were right, 4 series. I appreciate the help from you and Fast68!!!!
72chevyLWB, looks like I'll keep it...

I agree with Dual Quad, That looks like an Eaton posi unit to me. They come with green springs, I have an eaton unit and it also has Armasteel casted into it. As far as what series I can't help you there.
