I had a 1978 step side that had cut coils and I always had problems with the shims falling out. I took it to a heavy duty truck shop. They measured the amount of shims I needed and replaced them with washers. The washers wont fall out and they left a little room to install one or two shims for final alignment. I never had a problem after that. I hope this helps.

good idea,,,for now i'm going to safety wire them in ,,so if it backs off they will still be there
