GMC 4 head lamp system ?????

The original headlamp configuration consisted of :-
Outside -- #4000 - 37.5 / 60.0 watts -- (Hi-Lo Beam)
Inside -- #4001 - 37.5 watts -- (Hi Beam)

Total wattage -Hi Beam = 37.5 X 4 = 150 watts
Total wattage -Lo Beam = 60.0 X 2 = 120 watts

Replacement lamps - per Lighting catalogs :=
Outside -- #H5006 = 35.0 / 35.0 watts == (Hi-Lo Beam)
Inside -- #H5001 = 50.0 watts == (Hi Beam)

Total wattage = Hi Beam = 35/50/50/35 = 170 watts
Total wattage = Lo Beam = 35/35 = 70 watts

This configuration gives only 70 watts on Lo Beam which is a 'downgrade'
compared to original 120 watts. I plan to replace the #H5006 (outside
lamps) with the original #4000 for additional brightness on Lo Beam.

So---- What do you GMC owners suggest ???? I realize that Hella and other brands would be an answer; using H4 60 and 55 watts bulbs. My night driving is limited so I feel that the cost of Hella replacements is not practical. I do apprecaiate any and all suggestions........!!!!!
Note:- I will be replacing wiring with 12 guage, relays and auto-reset circuit breakers.................Jim

Jim, the relays alone will make the difference... like night and day. Even with old T3 lamps, it's a huge improvement.

Re: GMC 4 head lamp system ?????

I have sealed beam halogens in my GMC. When I went to relays and upgrade wiring I didn't notice a difference on low beams, but the high beams now are very bright.

That lower wattage rating is just showing you the increased efficiency of the Halogen bulbs. They use less power to make light.
To be fair, you need to know the lumen out-put, not the power draw.
What you are really looking for is "how much light" you get.

Those lower wattage bulbs should be brighter and whiter than the originals.
The relays are the way to go though, in either case.
