working on truck today, found nasty stuff... :whine:

well i got off work early today and tried to get a few things done on the truck and found some crappy stuff. I was taking out the stock trailing arms and springs to do my C-notch and install the CPP arms and slam bags when noticed that the upper spring perch is rusted pretty much through and is falling to pieces. being bummed about that, i moved onto another area since I had a helper show up. Decided to start removing the old busted windshield and some of the interior stuff in anticipation of pulling the cab here in a few weeks. well once the glass was out, I noticed that the whole top side of the flange is rusted and is gone by the passenger side corner. I'll post pics in a few minutes, but what are your thoughts on this? new cabs are not easy to find here in florida, heck parts in general are not easy to find and if you do, they are a fortune...

Fiberglass is the answer to the windsheild area fubar...I helped fix one on my 67 before it was mine. There's a new one most paint shops have that has the netting in it already...very cool.

DO you want my honest opinion? I hope so. I would say ditch the cab and start fresh. You are going to have a ton of rust issues in that window frame forever, unless you cut it all out and replace it. I bet in between the roof panels is severely rusted. You can try fiberglass, but I don't think in the long (or short) run it will last very well. You will have rust bubbles popping up again. I know that they are hard to find in your area. If you really want one of these trucks, I say make a trip out this way and towards az, nv, california and pick up something a little less damaged. It can be fixed, but you will probably spend a lot of money and time and may have problems anyway. JMHO.

I'm going to have to agree. I had a busted up cab myself, I'm sure I saved money and tons of headaches by buying a decent cab.

i have to agree with above
theres gonna be more head ache and pain in fixing that rather than just buying a new cab

Re: working on truck today, found nasty stuff... :whine:

i thought about it last night and I also agree. with the amount of money and sweat equity that will be involved to fix it, I don't think it will be worth it. plus thats obviously not the only problems with the cab either. needs rockers and corners and doors. The frame should be a rather easy fix. I am prob going to do something along the lines of the ART rear shock mount in their strong arm kit. Unfortunately you guys are right, too much will be involved in getting that cab right. thanks for the honest input!!

We see a lot of decent cabs pop up around here now and again. And Tx is only about halfway to Cali and Az. You might get some peeps in the San Antonio and west areas to start looking for ya.

ROAD TRIP! There are a lot out in Cali like others have mentioned, but I really don't think you have to go that far. There are plenty of good ones in Texas (the farther west the better), New Mexico, Arizona, Western Oklahoma...etc. The internet is definitely your friend in this case.
