'68 upgrade questions

Got a '68 C20 with manual brakes. I rebuilt the entire brake system (safety first ), Now, I am building arms like Popeye with this manual setup. I want to know if anyone has put power steering in a 67 or 68 with a 400SBC? I hear the pulley situation can really be challenging... If I read/understand correctly, you can pull the gearbox, lines and pump, brackets and pulleys off any 73-86 Chev pickup and it will work? Just need a 67-72 power steering Pitman arm and idler arm?

Second, I am having a bit of trouble finding the right shocks. The 68 C20 has coil rear suspension and the ones that the local auto parts store recommends look like weenie shocks compared to the factory originals. I am not dropping OR raising the truck, and I am running 16's. I DO plan to tow occassionally with this truck, so any recommendations on decent shock namebrands/part numbers to look into?
Thanks for the help!

Re: '68 upgrade questions

When you get your PS setup, make sure the PS pump brackets match the length of water pump style of your current 400. If your 400 has the long water pump, your search should be pretty easy. There are a zillion square body 73+ SBC trucks out there. If you have the short water pump setup, you may have to look a little harder as this was a 72 and earlier truck or 68(?) and earlier car setup.
There is a difference on how the hydraulic lines seal at some point in the late 70's or early 80's, but if you pull a matching set all off of one truck, it should work ok. Just make sure you note what year the donor is so you can get parts down the road.
Don't know about your shock situation, but someone here will.

Thanks Clay! This site is super! I guess the part about the shocks that befuddles me is when they talk about heavy duty and non heavy duty C20's in 1968... I have no clue if mine is a HD or regular... Also saw something while searching here about thecoil rear shock brackets failing?
