Is this a good trade?
I know this is a stupid question but I have to ask. A guy at work has a 12 bolt posi-trac differential(for scottri) w/ 3:73 gears and he is wanting to trade for a holley 650 spread bore carb. that I told him I bought off of E-bay for 50 bucks and it needs a rebuild. Now I know that the posi rear is worth way more than 50 bucks so here's my problem. Should I offer him more because I feel guilty, or should I take it and run even knowing that he is aware that the Holley needs work and his differential (for scottri)is perfect? I know this because he used to work at a transmission shop and he put new clutches in it and it came out of his personal truck.
He says that he really just wants a 650 spread bore because he has a factory aluminum intake and doesnt want to run a quadrajet. I have made trades before that I knew I was giving away too much but because I really wanted the items I was willing to give more, so it's ok to be on the other end right? I have really been wanting a 3:73 posi because mine is a 3:08 posi right now. Happy now Scottri?:p Last edited by Gene; 02-06-2003 at 06:45 PM. |

i agree take him out to the bar treat him for a night then trade. hell give him a hand with the carb rebuild if he wants. i think the probbaly just knows how much they are new has searched for a long time and couldnt find one. though the rear is worth more cash if he doesnt need it it might only be worth 50 bucks to him

A beer? If you guys only knew this dude I would spend a hell of alot more than 50 bucks on beer if we worked it out like that:p Thanks for the reassurance though, I already had my mind made up before I started this thread I just needed to hear it from some fellow truckers!

I'm a little worried when you say his "rear is perfect" .

If you are going to feel guilty give him the carb and I'll take the posi.....pretty simple then every time you lay down the rubber you wont be reminded of the posi.

Just so you don't feel so guilty, I will offer you $50 for the 3.07 posi and I will promise to carry some of your guilt on my shoulders.

Gene, Ya can't float those big curve balls over the plate and not expect me to take a swing! Take the posi! I've kicked my own perfect rear many times over missed deals like that.

Buy him a rebuild kit and throw that in too. It will make you feel a little bit better. And prob cheaper then getting him drunk at the bar.

are you sure the posi rear end is in good condition? I've most often found that if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.... just my .02

Well Purs, I havent actually seen it, but I work with the guy and he is very honest. The fact that he used to rebuild them for a living also makes me feel better.

sorry, didn't know you knew the guy personally and he was trustworthy. In that case, I'd offer the rebuild kit and make the deal. Good find.

I dont know...as soon as you make the deal..you know hes going to find 6 new spreadbores laying in a box on the side of the street,or find a perfect one for 75 bucks. if hes a friend...just tell him of your concern..its not worth the headache or bad karma. He may very well be getting the better deal, and if you voice your concerns about screwing him, it will drop the bad karma ball in his lap
