Vortec build up???????????????

Has anyone here built and entire Vortec? I've got an 87 (maybe) complete Vortec. How does it compare to a more conventional 4 bolt main 350. I'm thinking of doing a complete rebuild on it and putting it in my 72. I've already got the GM intake for it.

Vortechs came in 1996, before that was TBI. I know most newer sb have roller cams, not sure about 87 though. Should be pretty much the same as any sb out there, maybe a one peice rear main seal? other than that they are the same old 350. You could put vortech heads on it. I can't tell ya much else though.

I'm not sure on the year but it has a one piece rear main and has Vortec heads. It has a plastic timing chain cover. What year would it have to be to be a Vortec?

I believe Vortech 350's were made from 1996 to 1999 then they went to the different block 4.8 liters and 5.3 Vortecs. Some 1996 trucks had TBI though.

And as far as I know, other than the lack of a mech. fuel pump boss, the new heads, and a roller cam...it should be pretty much a good 'ole small block.
