67 K10, slow and go problem
Hey guys. First of all understand that since i bought this truck most of the time was in the garage, and i been driving it for a couple of days. Anyways, today i went out to run some errands and on the way home the truck started to slow down, and go, slow down and go, did it for about 30 to 60 seconds, i slowed down and started slowly and it was good again but it kept doing it on 2 other ocasions, does it on any gear, except reverse.
What it does is like kinda loses power but dont die, and then recovers. Im thinking maybe is dirty gas tank, z-bar problems [is a little lose] or the clutch is kaput. Any ideas?

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
Fuel, and ignition come to mind.
Maybe a dirty fuel filter, bad pump or carb, may be starving the engine for fuel.Or if it's still running the original points system they could cause the problem.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
I wouldnt be surprised if its the fuel system and carb, the fuel lines and carb look like crap. And well the truck starts every time, the spark plug wires are a mayor f-up because are not cut to length, they just installed them in a hurry i guess. I Will check on the spark plugs to see what they tell me.
Any other ideas other than the starving of fuel?

I'd take a look at the distributor.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
I suggest that you take out your fuel sending unit, remove the sock and blow the sending unit out with a compressor. after that replace all of the rubber lines, and blow out all the hard lines. New fuel filter, and a can of Aerosol carb cleaner. If that helps maybe think about a carb rebuild. If that doesn't help the problem, it was save you from future problems at least.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
So im supposed to have a in-tank fuel sending unit besides the mech. fuel pump? Gonna check on that. If theres too much crap messed up im just gonna replace the engine with the new one i have in the garage; wich reminds me, what is the easiest way to separate the tranny from the enigne [this will be my first engine swap] Lets not start another thread, so the forum dont look clutered plz.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
manual or auto tranny?
Auto is pretty straight forward. pull driveshaft, drain fluid, disconnect everything from tranny, remove support and crossmember, remove torque converter bolts, loosen!! tranny to engine bolts, raise tranny a little with jack, then romove all bolts, and guide tranny out. That's the short version, hope it helps

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
I'd go to the basics. Check the fuel filter(s).
Many, many moons ago, (oh wait, you can't see my arm describing an arc over my cranium) my son & I took an Easter week trip to AZ. On the way back home, climbing the hill between Blythe and Chiriaco Summit, the old Jimmy wouldn't run over about 50-55 MPH So I pulled into the General Patton Museum. We didn't have time to stop in and look at the displays, but I did change out the inline fuel filter. (I carried a couple of spares for that trip) The Jimmy ran fine all the rest of the way home! Just my .02.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
Alright, i had a Rusell filter laying around [new] and i put it on, check the sending unit, and the sock, that thing just crumbled on my hands, so i put a improvised sock. And this is the interesting stuff, i think the problem was because the primary on the carb was closing, the vacuum was closing it. So i did all that plus i secured the primary with a zip tie and the truck is good now.

Re: 67 K10, slow and go problem
I talked to a rep from Novak and he told me the problem most likely would be clutch chatter, about wich i started reading the Tech-One Manual TRansmission and it seems to tackle that same cause, the rep also told me that if it would be a gear problem, it would cause a catastrophy, and on the case of a synchro would be problems at shifting.
Anyone knows what kind of oil the trannie uses?
