edelbrock rejet job????
I have a Edelbrock 1406 carb. on my old 72 that I want to rejet a little leaner. I ordered new jets "#1426-.095, new rods"#1456, and a set of different springs. According to the chart I will be leaning down to the #7 position. My question is how hard of a job is this? According to the manual it is suppose to be a simple job but, I would like input from ordinary people who have done it, and their opion as to what I should be aware of before I start.
Thanks |

Mess with mine quite a bit the metering rods and springs are a piece of cake ,takes about 5 min. once you do it a few times. You don't have to take the carb off to change the jet's but I always do it's a lot more convient . I assume you are changing the primary jet's ?as the secondary's are already .095 . I also check the needle and seat and float level when I have the carb off.

you might check the float levels before you start jetting......my 1407 had a float too high(bounced around in shipping Im sure), & it ran very rich. I did also lean the cruise mode a tad.....crazyL

I want to get more power/performance out of my 1406. What jet sizes should I go with? I just have the ones that came with the carb. Thanks

Hotrod, every combo tunes a little different. Best bet is to go into edelbrock's site ...... http://www.edelbrock.com/ , & look under carbs/ tuning tips. Im a beleiver in "read/learn all you can about the equip you are dealing with", then go to town. Good luck.....crazyL

HotRod929 ; I agree with Crazy Longhorn , I'll bet you are probably missing the massive amount of fuel the Q-jet dumped when you hit the secondarie's . if so my first suggestion would be to go to a larger secondary jet's ,the 1406 came with .095 , so you may want to go to a .o98 or .101 .for starters

Bill nailed that square on, the Q jet had a bigger "seat of the pants" feel when those big seconds crashed open. I think the squarebore carbs have a little more across the band, but you will also pay for a little more "motion lotion"....the spreadbore are more economical........crazyL

Bill72BB - Which ones would you recomend trying first? I really do miss the feel when the secondaries on the Q-jet opened up.
I dont mind fuel economy much just want that feal back again! HotRod
