The topic I guess says it all. I inherited my grandfather's 76 GMC 3/4 ton. It needs a lot of TLC...the entire interior needs replaced, it also needs a driver door and front fender, and someone to take the trans apart to get at a leak. The bed has rivet holes all along the rail, as he had a soft button on tonneau back in the day. The truck is really rust free except for very light surface rust along the rail and in the bed from a plastic bedliner I've since removed.

My question to you guys...is it worth the effort to strip the entire thing down and sell it piece by piece? Or should I sell it as a whole? I'm torn.

Thanks all

Sam

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

It sounds like it would be better to sell it intact. Since parts are still fairly abundent for these trucks, parting them out doesn't gain much advantage.

That was kinda the first plan...but time/money will always be an issue. Dunno if it will ever happen. And now I'm finding myself having to drive hundreds of miles per week, and need the money for a car that gets better than a few mpg. It was the obvious choice for release...still considering your thought as well though!

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

It's in pretty good shape for a 32 year old truck. I've seen people start with alot worse. I'd keep it and try to find a cheep reliable econobox for a daily driver. If you do decide to sell it, sell it whole it would be a good project truck for sombody or a good work horse for a gardening buisness, ect.

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

Thanks for the kind words guys. I've known it was in good shape. My idea originally was to convert it to a 4BT diesel and fixer up...then use it for a daily driver...but funds are really tight. Anyone want to fund me buying a $500 commuter?

Not to change subject but I just looked at where you’re from, I grew up in Glendora. My Dad still lives there. Anyways nice truck you shouldn’t have a problem selling it.

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

tell you what id keep that truck and restore it.. its in way too good a shape to get rid of .. someplace youve got to be able to store it and hold off for the funds...the 76 i started with years back makes your truck look like its showroom.. id have killed for a truck like that back when
as to a daily driver lol there are tons of $500 beaters around here but im across the country

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

as sad as it is to say... these trucks are currently worth more in parts. sucks if you ask me, because they are each a diamond waiting to be buffed...

Re: sell truck whole, or part it?

yosemitesamiam- While I feel that your intent was legitimate, I knew it wouldn't last. It was only a matter of time before someone turned this thread in the wrong direction.

I hope you got your answer...
