Spiffied up my glove box door today
I have been riding around staring at that big ol plain red glove box door forever, so I decided to something to dress it up a little. I bought a repop Cheyenne Super glove box insert a while back, and as anyone who has them knows, the woodgrain is terrible on them. So I did what Special-K and did and painted it with the spray on bedliner and then I came back over with gloss black. I taped up the aluminum edge, and scuffed the woodgrain part with some 400 grit sandpaper. It almost matches the texture on the dash bezel perfectly. I took a '67 glove box emblem that all the chrome had worn off of and painted the outside and letters with a silver leaf paint pen. It is a little different, and looks a lot better than the plain glove box door IMO.

Re: Spiffied up my glove box door today
Nice job, it looks great.
I asked awhile back if anyone made templates of the inner glove box door, ash tray and instrument cluster...I got nothing. Now thanks to this thread I see I can just use the repro Cheyenne wood grains...Thanks! |

Re: Spiffied up my glove box door today
That's kind how I got the idea to do this. The truck below had a woodgrain decal painted black put on a chromed glove box door. The only difference in mine is that it is the Super trim, and has the aluminum backing and the decal was already installed. I think I may do my '67 C-30 like this one.

looks even better when you do it on a chrome door... then it matches the inst panel and ballances the whole dash out IMO.

Re: Spiffied up my glove box door today
Just a tip - The pattern matches well, but I found out when I was doing it that the spray in bedliner is a deep black. It is more like a real real dark grey. I had to topcoat it with gloss black paint to get the deep rich black I wanted.

Re: Spiffied up my glove box door today
I just got a set off ebay and they were installed on everything and did not fit well. The ash tray one is definitely too small and the dash one seems to be a little to small to cover everythign, but the person did a poor job installing it. I am going to attemp to peel it off and reposition it. Then i will be painting mine like this...or another idea i have...
