Does anyone have a ball park idea of how much it would cost to have a vintage air system installed into a truck that had no ac originally. Thanks for any input.

A guy I used to work with charged 750 for labor only, so the grand total was about 1,800.

id do it myself. all you really need is to cut the holes for the ac vents and the rest is a pinch

How do u do the whole cutting?

just 2 circles on each side and one above the stereo, the sizing im not sure of, someone with AC can tell you that, but it doesnt seem too taxing of a process.

i installed my vintage air setup myself except for the line connections. the overall process was a grand for tha material (kit, fittings & outlets) i had them run my lines along the fender so it was a little extra but the cost for them to do it & hook everthing up was around $400. my truck is a '72 non ac truck. i cut the center hole just like the factory with factory outlet.the hardest part was the mounting of the unit.

Mine's been installed for a year now and on High it'll freeze you out of the cab.

I have a stock A/C system that works but I keep having to have the system recharged. Does the Vintage air just work better and is it worth swapping?

If you keep having to re-charge it, you have a leak. I'd suggest just getting your leak fixed and the stock system will work fine.

Try to PM board member " coolair " He's a Tech advisor at Vintage Air.
I know they do installs at the factory or at least at a nearby location... It may be worth the 4 hour drive for you to go to San Antonio to get it done...

Are you referring hooking up the hoses from under the hood to the unit? I can't tell you how many time's I said bad words because I couldn't get my dang tools under there, or I could only tighten the stupid thing 1/8" at a time

I had a guy in New Caney, Tx install my Vintage Air on a 1970 with no factory air. It's worked fine except one electrical connector slipped off about a week after the install. I described the problem and he led me straight to it over the phone and I crimped it a little tighter, put it back on and haven't had a problem since.

There's another guy in Pearland, Tx I talked to that primarily concentrates on Vintage Air installs and I heard he's really good. I was doing a bunch of other work at the same time that he wasn't real sure about which is why I decided to go with the New Caney guys, but if I would have only been installing air I probably would have gone to the guy in Pearland.

As for cost, I think I figured my air was gonna run me in the $1600-1800 installed range, but I was doing so much other work under the hood at the same time, it was tough to isolate.

Let me know if you want some names or numbers, I'll see what I can dig up.

I have heard of systems costing between $800-1200 depending on the bells and whistles you want to add, but if you have the OE set-up it is cheaper to use it and just replace the parts, and the R-12 is colder than 134a. But if non-air then vintage, rod air, etc, etc there are several kits and the prices vary depending on the "stuff' some simple kits can be done for under a grand. Good Luck!

That part was rough too.
I was talking about the tubes to the vents in the dash. The drivers side tube was especially challenging. I think I will modify my ash tray as in delete it, except for the face.
