need help on parts and airbags

hey guys.
i started work on my 86 2wd last weekend. she got hit and tweaked the frame. working on an lt1 conversion. i was wondering i want to get rid of the leaf springs and just run airbags on the back. anyone have ideas on how to do this. can you do a 2 link setup with a panhard bar or is it easier to just do the four link setup.
also i was wondering the best place to find interior parts like the plastic panels next to the seats where the top mount for the seatbelt is and the top rear panel of the headliner.
anyone have ideas for blacked out taillights. like where to find them or how to do them

Re: need help on parts and airbags

I took my tail light lenses as well as my side marker, front turn signal and clearance lights to a local body shop and had them all "smoked" Basicaly all they do is mix a little bit of black paint in with a lot of clear coat (Don't know the ratio) then they sprayed the outer face. $200.00 later and I'm all blacked out but the lights still illuminate properly.

Re: need help on parts and airbags

Up here the law states that the lights must be visible from 750 ft away at night and the brake lights from a minimum of 1000 ft away

Re: need help on parts and airbags

I don think it legal to smoke your lenses in Utah.
http://le.utah.gov/~code/TITLE41/htm/41_06a160400.htm
Except as provided under Subsections (2)(b)(ii), (2)(c), and Section 41-6a-1612, all stop lamps or other lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.

The Section 41-6a-1612 covers backup lights.
Maybe it depend upon interpretation because it does say or not and but I don't think its allowed.

Re: need help on parts and airbags

i don't know of any US made vehicle with factory black outs. i'm not saying there aren't any just that i dont know of one. and the law there just states that it must display or reflect red. i think the or is the key word. it may be legal i don't know. but the link goes directly to the law regarding tailights

Re: need help on parts and airbags

Here's the pics of my smoked lenses I promised.
My revers lenses got a bit over heated and melted when I got stuck last winter and left it in reverse for too long with the 55 watt halogen bulbs in them !!!

Re: need help on parts and airbags

They were painted with a mixture of clearcoat and black paint. I don't know what exact ratio they used but it was definatly more clearcoat than black.

Chuck
Chuck I don't think that will work here. The article you linked to is great but it pertains to a 73-87 truck. The rear portion of the frame for a Blazer is totally different.

I looked on the CPP site and couldn't locate the kit, but I don't "think" they offer an application for a Blazer.

On the blacked out tail lights subject. There is a article in Sept 08 Sport Truck Magazine (page 72-73) that shows how to and what to use.

Re: need help on parts and airbags

not sure if its legal here in utah or not.. but i would expect to get pulled over or not pass inspection.. this year they measured the light out put on my old car.. i wouldnt do it myself, with the way everybody here in utah thinks they are on a race track, i want them to see me
