Can you run without your dust covers?

On your front wheels, your dust covers for your wheel bearings, do you have to have them? The new wheels I have for the '67 work, but I can't put the center caps on without removing the dust covers.

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

I would say no. All the grease would just sling all over the place.

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

Oh, and the life of your bearings would be dramatically reduced due to lack of grease and dirt and debris getting in there.
Corey.

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

Never mind. Dumb question and even after I took them off the ceneter caps still hit the nut.

Oh well.

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

What kind of wheels are you using?. Maybe you can use a spacer for the center cap?

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

i know a man who is on this board that ground down the hub to make his center piece fit and kept the factory grease cap

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

If a 1/4" would cure your problem, a simple wheel spacer should do. Cheap, easy, very little adverse effect.

Re: Can you run without your dust covers?

A BMFH won't help because the nut still hit's with the cap off. I'm thinking of changing rims. I might be selling these.

I agree. I tried making the dust caps a little "shorter" but the axle stub contacted the back side of the cover.....

I believe a spacer is a good point, but just enough of one to create the space you need. 1/4-inch would be too much. Can you get one that is only 1/8-inch?

I'm going to use a different cap on my Rallye's. Don't want to, but don't like the small blip in the center of my police caps.
