Re: How bad is it gonna leak??

How shot are the body mounts? I'd suggest replacing them before you crack the top seal for the first time.Doing it while everything is still aligned and the top keeping it rigid will make putting it back on much easier and less likely to leak. If the body mounts are shot, and most likely they are, when you pull the top, the body will sag in the middle. This can cause the doors to bind and rattle and make putting the top back on difficult. You'll also see your ride quality improve with new body mounts.

If you get a good seal in the corners of the windshield, they really don't leak.

By the way, post some pictures of this 95K classic. We love seeing pictures!!!

I agree with Bouncy, body mounts would be a real good idea. I recommend the polyurethane ones. Without any experience at all it will take the good part of a weekend if everything goes well.

I'd recommend the rubber repops. I've heard the poly mounts can squeek and are stiffer than the rubber. If he keeps the truck another 36 years, he might need to replace them again.

True on the poly's but they don't 'have' to squeak if a little time is taken to make sure they don't.

I applied a very liberal coating of anti-seize on the poly's I ran, never a sound...ever.

As far as making the ride more firm, of course they do.

It's factory repro rubber mounts for me next time though.

Re: How bad is it gonna leak??

This may be a stupid question but I replaced my body mounts from cab back: how tight do you do the bolts? Are they suppposed to bottom out or do you back off a little?

Re: How bad is it gonna leak??

What is involved in changing the body mounts? I've never done that before.

Anybody know somewhere online that has a step by step process?

thanks

Re: How bad is it gonna leak??

Found these under :blazer body mounts: but there might be more using different search parameters.

5 pages of good reading either-way.

Re: How bad is it gonna leak??

I agree with bouncytruck on the Body mount material. Urithane does not have any flexability and is almost like welding the tub to the chassis. That is the worce thing that you can do. The chassis in the Blazer, trucks, and suburbans are "C" channel constructed, not boxed tube and are extreemly flexible. The body or tub is spot welded together and is not flexible, so there has to be a material between them to allow one to move and not the other. If you do not allow for the movement the results are welds cracking, and body mounts eventualy pulling through the body. I have seen more than one truck come into my shop with dammage due to urithane bushings. Urithane is good for suspention, but that is it. WES
