Almost ready for a motor

This is the last progress I made before haveing a litte out-patient surgery. I have not done much since. A friend of mine told me about useing oven cleaner to clean a frame and boy was he right!!!! The paint is just Rustoleum semi-gloss black, I hope it holds up.

Nice D-ring type setup, Do you think the part tied to the frame is enough?

Re: Almost ready for a motor

I think so? My uncle had that put in right after he bought this blazer in74'. From what he tells me, the tube is the piston out of hydrolic cylinder(really thick walled) and the d-ring "hangers" were cut off of some kind of heavy equiptment. The tube is welded all the way around at both ends to the frame.

Looks Good 1972CST! Some day I will get that far on mine! I also like using oven cleaner for various projects.

Just a note of caution for anyone that wants to try the oven cleaner. It eats many types of paint! It also can eat masking tape adhesive.

Later---DAC

Your frame looks really good. Did you use any type primer on the frame before you painted it?

No primer, from what I under stand Rustoleum is compatible over bare metal or primer? We shall see! Thats a nice blazer you have.

Yeah that would be cool to update to 2001 stuff under my Jimmy, but its a little out of my budget. My Mom drove my 70 GMC from 1971 to 2001. Her age and a broken flexplate brought the truck to me mid 2001.

No, I don't have a build thread as my updates are rare. I recently purchased a good running '89 Suburban (cheap) that I am considering using the tbi 350 and drivetrain to get some mileage, got new body mounts installed and am fitting new carpet. I don't want to hack on Mom's Jimmy too much, but I do intend on it being able to be a daily driver, along with my other trucks.

Thanks for asking---DAC

I gotcha...I guess I had a dumb blonde moment! I thought 1971-2001 under rebuild was 71 on 01 frame

Re: Almost ready for a motor

That is amazing! It looks like you had the frame blasted. Did you have to do a lot of scrubbing?
