Door Handle replacement.

I need to get new door handles or new lock mechs so I can lock my doors. I didnt get any door keys when I bought the truck..

Never seen the inside of one of these doors. Is it a easy job? Do I have to remove the glass to get to the back side of the handles?

Thanks guys..

Re: Door Handle replacement.

what year truck?
our '66 is simple, 2 Phillips head screws holds the handle on, you just roll the window out of the way, can even get a drill in there too, i have never changed the locks though

Re: Door Handle replacement.

They're a piece of cake. Just do one at a time so you can reference the other if needed. And if you by aftermarket, make sure you line up the bolt threads in the door handle correctly. I was in a hurry once and did not pay close enough attention and broke the bolt off in the handle. I had to drill and retap it to get it to work. Ugh!

Re: Door Handle replacement.

60-66 are the same. once you unscrew the door handles from inside take out the old lock then you just slide the new locks in the same, the only hard part is the ignition key you will need to place a paper clip in the small hole then turn the key to pop out the old one. then you can use 1 key for every lock.

Re: Door Handle replacement.

Roll the window all the way up. Remove the inside door regulator and window regulator. Remove the interior door panel. Remove the two phillips head screws from the exterior door handle. The lock mechanism is held in place with a "C" clip. Remove the "C" clip and the lock assembly, caps and spring will come out. The correct setting of the key opening is vertical when replace the locking mechanism. Reassemble in reverse order.

For a matching set of ignition, glove box and door locks, try:

www.classicparts.com
www.bowtiebits.com

I have purchased this set from each and installed with no problems. I also recommend replacing the door handle gaskets, which are available from Classic Parts and Bowtie Bits and www.lmctruck.com. This will keep the handles from contacting the paint directly. I hope this information is helpful and good luck with your project.
