Anyone know what used to be on this Quadrajet?

I picked up this Quadrajet at a swap meet a couple of years ago. I didn't notice until I started disassembling it on Sunday that there is a broken piece on one of the linkages. Was this something that is vital to the carbureutor's operation, or am I going to be ok without it?

If its a mid 70s 0r 80s vintage it seems like some of them had an idle solenoid or something like that. I've had a few of them. never could get them to work right. But when they do they're a nice carb.

The area in question is where the hole was for the kickdown for the transmission as in the cable hookup for a TH 350.

If your truck is a stick shift or has a TH 400 transmission then you will not need it.

That stinks, because I have 3 on the tree now, but plans are for a turbo 350. I wonder if something could be fabbed up without looking like a total hack-job.

Anyone have a picture of this area without that part broken off? I want to see what kind of work I have in front of me. I know several people would say to get a different carb to start with, but I'm stubborn and want to make this one work if I can.

Let me elaborate a little about the carb, since there are tons of different linkages amongst the years. The serial number has this one coming off a 72 Chevy pickup, which is what the seller said it came off of. So, if anyone has a picture of their Quadrajet from their 72 Chevy pickup, that would be perfect.

Not sure what year this is out of but I think it would be easy to replace that piece.

The bases can be swapped out, or the throttle shaft replaced, etc. What are the numbers on the carb?

They run into the manifold on some applications so guys cut them off.

Bus Ted Knuckle - The serial number is 7042208. I didn't know the bases were interchangeable unless it's from a carb with an identical serial number.

Wrenchbender Ret - I figured it was probably something along those lines.

7042208 means it is a 72 model carb, so it is a 4MV (correct for our trucks) any base but the earliest 4MV base will interchange. Just look for one that isn't wore out.

M4M q-jet bases (later model carbs) will not fit.

I think you can still hook up your TH350 kickdown to the bracket you have though, in the hole in the tab that hangs down the lowest...just fab up a post to attach it to, or use a bolt w/ a lock nut arrangement. If that won't work, jsut experiment with bending or adding to the bracket, you should be able to find something that will work.

Thanks for the info Bus Ted Knuckle and the picture Jim! If you have any more pictures, I'd love to see them. It can only help me figure out what I want to do.

I think I'll start by taking a trip to the junkyard this weekend to hunt for a baseplate. I can usually find a Quadrajet on an old van. Usually the cars and trucks are picked over, but the vans get overlooked alot. If I can't find something suitable, I'll have ask my uncle to fab something up for me. He a machinist, and I've seen him fabricate some stuff you wouldn't believe!

I don't use a site, I have a pretty impressive collection of old manuals...that is where my info comes from.
