Package upgrade or leave it alone?

I have been debating this for a little while. Since my truck is a custom deluxe I don't think it really matters. But I am wondering if it has any uniqueness to it? I am planning on adding all the Super cheyenne stuff to it as I work on it. Did they ever have a Super Cheyenne Longhorn truck? I don't know, but that is the direction I want to go with this.

we'll need details to tell you if it is unique. Just being a custom delux makes it garden variety.
You could get any option package (including cheyenne and supers) on a longhorn. My first one was a 70 CST

I think it is a very basic truck. No A/C no head liner, you know the rest. It does have the trim in the glass weather stripping, bottom black trim, not the wood grain. I was just curious to what others thought. Thanks though.

If it is not a highly optioned big block truck...or a completely untouched, pristine, very low mileage, original survivor...by all means, upgrade to your hearts content and your pocket books ability!

Send pictures first. BTW...I have some of that black and silver Longhorn trim for a '72 that I am not going to use.

the woodgrain and headliner only came in the CST (69/70) or cheyenne/super (71/72)

lol... I'm good mike. My longhorn is just a beater with a heater, and that's all it'll ever be. If I ever decide to have a nice one, I'll start with a better example. This one will be worked till it dies, and then I'll probably put it away for a while till i decide to revive it... as a beater that I'm not afraid to work.

I guess the only great option my truck has is it was a factory 402 truck, but the engine is gone. So it will get every option I can afford. LOL I just found a cheap not so rusty A/C cab. It will take a long time to get this truck nice but I plan on using it. My first truck was a 70 longhorn and I miss that ol truck. I'll probabaly paint it that color and add everything else I always wanted to do to that truck. If I remember right the color was called burnt orange. Does that sound right?

I've seen some on custom dulex's too, but I never could figure out any pattern to it.

Have we reached the point in '67-72's that says there are die-hard restorers? I mean, we have people who think it is a sacrilege to deviate from the way it was built "in the beginning"? I like restorations as much as anyone. From the people I have met who are in the AACA, and such, there are "degrees" of restoration and the goal is a 100-point award. Do we have that degree of authenticity within our group that says it is wrong to add OEM-type stuff to our own vehicle? If it is your vehicle and you want to add OEM stuff to it, so what if the SPID doesn't have it listed. You and I all know that there are people who can create an SPID that will have everything we want it to have, OEM, or not. The VIN's on these trucks don't say which engine it has, or which transmission. They do say what the wheelbase is and whether or not it was a six or an eight....but not which specific engine. The SPID is the only document on these trucks that has that data spelled out. I guess that those who have all of the original documents, warranty cards, etc., can take those specific vehicles and restore them, but for the most part, I believe we can treat them as we wish. Restore, Modify, Restify, HotRod, whatever makes your heart sing.

If you were to build a 32 Ford Pick Up, what would you do with it? Flathead, stock tranny, wires, fender-mounted spares, Original (high dollar) radio? In another 30 years, what will our hobby want these trucks to be?

Do what you like....and like what you do.

AMEN...but when I got my first 1968 50th Anniversary Longhorn with all the original docs, new original tailgate, etc. I just thought it would be so cool to put it back to original...go for a "100 pt." restoration. My other 1968 50th Longhorn is getting ALL the upgrades from discs to buckets and a new SPID...maybe even 4x4 someday.

Right, if the SPID sheet is still readable and still on the glovebox door. Once it's gone, like a truck I looked at on Tuesday, aside from the VIN being a CS or a CE, how do you know what it had if you have no other paperwork?
