Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
I'm want to remove the in-cab, stock fuel tank and replace/relocate it under the box, between the stock frame members, with an after market tank. Has anybody done this? What manufacturers or suppliers have you used? Tank materials? Filler spout locations? Thanks.

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
I used a tank out of a 73 blazer in my 62 for awhile, but my frame is not stock out back. I would look around for a 60-66 suburban tank, it should bolt right in.

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
I plan on building my own tank soon....
However I did use this tank on a customers '67: - - - - - - - Really sweet tank....Good quality product if you don't mind the $450 price tag. Most people are running the Blazer tank conversion. That seems like the most reasonably way to go...just don't like how low it hangs. Later

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
CDN,
If you want a stainless tank, Rick's Hot Rod Shop makes a nice one for our trucks. I put one in my 65 short fleet with fuel injection pump. You just have to remove the spare tire carrier. It doesn't hang very low (16 gal), it is difficult to see without crawling under the truck. Doesn't block my aluminum diff. cover. I used a fuel cell snout opening in the side of the bed and fabricated a filler tube to the tank. The vent mounts between the bed and the fender on the passenger side. I had Rick's put in two fuel level senders, one for the stock guage and one for the computer. Here are some pics. It is a nice solution but not a cheap one.

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
you can use a jegs tank for $120 and two pieces of angle iron to hole it up and use a fuel door to acess it in the bed

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
i think this might suit you better, i don't know how much you want to spent or have to fab up, but BOTHERTRUCKS has this, and the tank like whats shown above, this is just a cheaper option

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
thanks,
yeah i have seen those, classic parts has them cheaper. they hang down too much. i know there are some that don't, but they are spendy. i'm not ready to get one yet, just been keeping an eye out for a cheaper stealthier option. probably end up building one

Re: Suggestions - 66 SWB SS Fuel Tank Replacement
yeh, there tacki, i used the jegs brand fuel cell, but i also have a raised bed floor. do you have the stock floor?
you could always put a black plasic(poly) one on top in the bed for now, it might not look as good, but waaaaay safer than smellin gas inside. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15320/10002/-1 or http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15382/10002/-1
