Engine Sputter

I have a moderate built 283 ci in my 69 C-10 pickup. Roller valvetrain and cam. Of course I have no torque with this engine, but when I jump on the gas pedal, when get between 45 and 55mph it starts to sputter and spit until I get past that, then it goes smooth again. Could that be rejetting?

I have an edelbrock 1406, just change the springs in the metering rod from long grey ones to the blue short ones. Have not drove it yet.

Re: Engine Sputter

Just drove my truck yesterday for the first time since March. Changed the springs on the edelbrock 1406, new plugs and MSD wires.
When I jusp on it I still have the same problem, sputters and spits. If I just give it gas like on the freeway and acelerate slowly to go faster. it does not sputter.

Have you checked the transmission? I have an early 90's car that does the same thing at around the same speed and found out that the transmission has some problems with it.

Its not jerking like the trans isbad. in fact less than 500 miles on the new trans, kinda like its taking too much gas and inowhere for it to go.
I step on the pedel from a standing start it takes off then the faster I go it spits and craps out the tail pipe, (pop pop), not loud like a backfire, but just like its missing or something. Maybe misfiring?

Re: Engine Sputter

Checked the fuel filter? How old is the fuel pump in it? What about the timing?

I just changed the fuel pump and filter in Febuary. Timing might be the cause. I need a timing light. Or could my 10 year old 283 is just getting tired?
