Gas miliage....
Driving my '70 is killing me, seems like it only gets ~2mpg. Im putting $30 in it a day just to drive 40 miles back and to work.
So Im looking at this 03 extended cab 4x4, 4.3 auto. Just wondering what kind of gas miliage I can expect from it....its only got 37K miles on it too, so its not all that worn out.

Re: Gas miliage....
you won't see much better mileage... typical mileage is around 14-18mpg.. you are better of making some adjustments on the 70 to make it run a bit leaner, tuneup and such that can increase the mileage..
I had a 76 GMC with a 350 that I gave a thorough tuneup and if I stayed off the gas I could see 19-21 mpg in the city...

Re: Gas miliage....
Yeah, but I want AC, cruise control, and those kinds of nice things. And this I could drive everywhere. I have park across the street at work because I cant go over the speed bump in the parking lot....

Re: Gas miliage....
Get a 2wd s10 with a 2.8 v6 5spd. I am getting 23-25 mpg with the a/c on. No BS either.

I did A LOT of research on this about 4 years ago. I wanted a ZR2 ex cab 4.3L 5 spd something awful bad, but after all my research it turned out that I was better off buying a full size. An S-10 ZR2 or 4x4 get only a mpg or so better "city" than a fullsize and a couple better highway. Back in '04 they were almost the same price, so I went with a Z71 ex-cab. The "revised" EPA rating for an S10 4.3L 4x4 is 14/19 for the automatic, 5spd is 15/20.

Re: Gas miliage....
The earlier models 4wd did have the 2.8 in them. I had one while back. Body was rusted off the truck but the motor still ran good.
Since you are wanting a 4wd drive I would definately get the 4.3 becuase they have alot more umph! than the 2.8. My sister had a 91 4 door blazer 4wd, 4.3 auto O/D. That thing would run forever on a tank of gas. 5-600 miles to a tank. I am pretty sure it wasn't any bigger than a 25 gallon tank either.

Re: Gas miliage....
I just ran a whole tank through my "new" S-15.(4.3 auto) -- Its a little over 20mpg, half the miles i put on it were with a dirt bike in the bed that sits considerably taller than the cab when it is tied down too, so that is goofing up the mileage some
